That is chump change for some of our boosters. Pay the guy, name Andover High School after his son and move on.

KC Shox, now that we are winning, you have become obsessed with HCGM leaving. You just can't enjoy the moment, can you?

I was worried myself last year......AFTER THE SEASON ENDED.

According to that article in TheState.com a few days ago Marshall's contract was re-done before this season to have a base of 900k + 125k for each year from that point on, not from 2007. So he either makes 900k or 1.025m (+ up to 225k in bonuses). So his actual salary is nowhere near $1.5mil, at least not for a couple more years, at least.

As a reminder, when we had UNI, MSU, CU, Davidson, staring us in the face, KCShox warned us that we might lose 4 of the 6. We won them all.

You must have read my mind. Who exactly is out there that is willing and able to write the checks necessary to keep a top notch coach? Until it happens I think these deep pocket boosters are merely a myth. My fear is that the law of averages eventually catches up when we end up with a Lowry.

I don't even know if 2.5mil would be enough.

There were articles last year written on HCGM's salary and 1.3 was the number given.

I can't say they're "willing", however I'll tell you without a doubt they are "ABLE" to write huge checks; fact is there are numerous individuals (yes WSU boosters) that reside in Wichita and are "ABLE" to write these checks regardless of the current economy. If these 'heavy hitters' believe in the cause and if it's important enough to them and the city of Wichita, they will open their wallets.

Is a coach at WSU (in the MVC) worth $2MM annually? If and when the times comes, this might be the question that needs to be answered. I say yes, but I'm only a 'light hitter'. :(

There are sunshine pumpers -- and then there are sunshine dumpers, like KC, who evidently either didn't read the guess by the columnist from Columbia ("Darrin Horn remains coach and is likely to continue in that capacity at USC through next season, and perhaps beyond...") or mentally blocked it out because it didn't fit his doom scenario. It must be quite the chore to go through life with your own private rain cloud hovering.

I started a purely informational thread on MVCfans.com last year regarding his salary. I cannot find the articles I based the discussion on, but I am rarely wrong when I post numbers.

I like KC's dose of realism and levelheadedness. However, you have hit the nail here, shoxlax. KC needs to get off the South Carolina boards and enjoy the season.

For those bitching about the term mid-major...this is your reality. HCGM will be, this year as well as future years, the belle of the ball. Why? Because he is having superior success at, and here it goes...WSU...a high quality MID-MAJOR.

Yea, there are some BCS marginal program coaches in the mix sometimes for the BCS openings (mostly shatty teams), but it seems the high profile coaches for these jobs are mid-major coaches.

This is our lot in life folks...let's face it and embrace it. As long as HCGM is here...and winning at least 24 games a year, he will be pursued by the BCS big brothers.

I don't want to lose him, but until some of you mid-major haters get to the ATM and pony up to the "Lets Keep Marshall Happily Paid Like a BCS Coach" fund, we will continue to have these timely conversations about money.

                                Talk amongst yourselves.
