The more stats to follow the better in my mind. But I'm also not the one doing the research on all of this. It is fun to watch as guys perform to see where they could end up and to see their progress.

Nevertheless, I appreciate JV keeping up with some of the season and career stats.

How about an update on the stats through the end of the regular season?

I was just perusing the stat and noticed a rather unusual oddity in the following in that our teams from the 1950's hold the first six spots and 7 of the top 10. Since these years had no shot clock, it would have seemed that the FG percentages would have been higher than today as many teams were generally schooled to work for the percentage shots.

There must be an obvious reason for this, but it escapes me.

        SEASON TEAM FG-PCT DEFENSE
        1. .350 1953-1954
        2. .358 1954-1955
        3. .370 1951-1952
        4. .381 1955-1956
        5. .383 1952-1953
        6. .385 1956-1957
        7. .394 2003-2004
        8. .396 1958-1959
        9. .403 2005-2006
        10. .408 1994-1995
        .439 2008-2009 ( 434 - 987 )

I don't have anything to back this up, but in addition to no shot clock, the FT lane was considerably narrower and big men did not seem to dominate the game as much. I just looked back at the stat post and WSU's FG-PCT offense is not listed , but are as follows:

          1. .527 1982-83
          2. .508 1981-82
          3. .503 1988-89
          4.(tie) .501 1980-81
          4.(tie) .501 1987-88
          6.(tie) .489 1971-72
          6.(tie) .489 1984-85
          8.(tie) .485 1974-75
          8.(tie) .485 1963-64
          10. .484 1983-84

          Oddity, 7 of 10 are 1980's and two '70s and one 60s.

In general, I believe the players today are significantly more skilled than in the pre-70 days. Kids were not dunking in the 50's. Consider if a tem shoots 48% with 12 for 25; eliminating 3 duncks and turning those into misses reduces the percentage to 9 for 25 or 36%. Even if the dunks don't become misses, it would reduce to 9-22 or 40.9%.

Since the FT lane was narrower and more clogged, there must have been fewer layups and in-the-paint shots. Also, big men were shooting hook shots instead of jams.

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Good points, im4wsu. Also, back then, there was no three second rule in the paint.

Just a quick note that I hope to have the stats updated and back up sometime this week. If there's anything you'd like me to try and add, please LMK. Thanks! :goshocks:

Toure Murry is now at 901 career points (following the win against Alabama A&M). At his current scoring average, he will hit 1,000 points in 8-9 games. That puts it at the Creighton/Drake road trip. It would be nice to have Toure go over 1,000 in a win at CU.

JV hasn't posted in over a year and hasn't updated this since late January... Is he OK?

He's fine. I just saw him at the Nicholls State game. I should have asked him about this thread!
