    That eases my concerns greatly.

I have a feeling that media coverage probably played a bigger role in this exercise. The actual committee has members assigned to follow every conference so CU's latest slide would not go unnoticed. Once they get the teams selected then they look even closer to determine seeding.

I'll say up front - I don't know anything about this - but,
What earthly reason would the real members of the selection committee have in putting something like this out there?
So much data is yet to be realized on final team records, conference champions, tournament champions, etc.
What value does something like this add to their process? I can't think of any.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

It is done by the media. Just guided by selection committe people that know what they are talking about. Bob Lutz went to one a couple years ago I believe.

In the bracketing exercise they send WSU (and Louisville) to Portland.

Isn't a 4-seed supposed to at least play somewhere close to their region?

Yes. Well, they are supposed to be protected from a geographical disadvantage. So I guess it's technically a "no, but..."

Protected seeds are simply ensured that they won't be at a home court "disadvantage" in either of their first two games (meaning their opponent is within a certain distance of the venue). Being a 4 or 5 seed then would seem to guarantee that you won't have any homecourt proximity whatsoever because your second round opponent is also a protected seed.

The second round opponent for a 4-seed is the 5-seed. As I recall from previous years, only seeds 1-4 in each region are protected. So a 4-seed WSU in Portland wouldn't be matched up against a 5-seeded Gonzaga. I don't think we disagree, I'm just trying to clarify.

Ironically, what I said wouldn't happen with Gonzaga being in Portland against WSU is exactly what the mock committee did: twitpic.com/8l6jqi. Apparently I stand corrected.

Due to time constraints they may have not tried all that hard to accomplish that in the bracketing process. Hopefully the actual committee will be more diligent.
