No kidding. Portland is the one site that almost completely eliminates driving for a lot of Shocker fans. Going there would cost the Shocks quite a bit of support for the first two games. The rest are driveable, although Greensboro is a long haul (we drove in '06). Ugh.

Omaha would be the best spot, but don't think it is going to happen with Mizzou and KU getting top seeds. Hopefully they will send us to Nashville.

I'm not completely sold on Mizzou to Omaha quite yet. I would think the STL Mizzou base would hope for Louisville or Nashville. The KC base would hope for Omaha. From Columbia, Louisville is only like 70 miles further than Omaha. And I'd much rather have Albuquerque than Nashville.

I like it. A potential shot at UK and KU, in StL!

I'll take the trek to Portland for that.

Yes, have some. Honestly, I'm hoping for Albuquerque over Omaha.

            • If we are so fortunate to win our first two games, I would love to face Kentucky. There would be absolutely no pressure on the Shox at that time. No one in hell would give us a chance to win that game - we'd be playing with house money.

Yes, indeed. You gotta beat the best to be the best.

I am definitely hoping for Albuquerque, since I live here. I would love the chance to see the Shockers play in the Pit!

                  • I am hoping for Albuquerque or Omaha. They would be the easiest drives.

Not if someone else beats them first, 85. Even more important, you don't have to be the best to be champion -- you just have to win six games in a single elimination format where the luck of the draw and other teams' upsets can make your job much easier or much harder.

That's the advantage of being seeded 3rd (or even 6th) vs. 4th or 5th -- it gives you one more chance for someone else to do the dirty work. Nothing wrong with that, as several champs from the 80s (NC State, Villanova, and KU) will attest. All beat quality opponents in the final, but all also benefitted from an unusually easy run to the final thanks to numerous upsets along the way. Even so, they're still champs. Not the best by a long shot, but champs just the same.

Edit: Oops: "as several champs from the 80s...CAN attest." There's no question they were extraordinarily lucky to reach the final -- but they'd probably never actually admit it, even though deep down inside they all know it. (And, in fairness, why apologize? It's not their fault that all those potentially stronger opponents kept stumbling over themselves.).

                      • Nashville isn't much further than ABQ and is closer for me in Topeka.

Hmmm. I feel like no way they would put Kansas and UK in the same region. One can hope... Though he has KU as a #2 seed. Unless they have a disastrous Big 12 tournament, Im expecting them to get a #1 seed. Particularly with Michigan St losing tonight. Indiana seems to like upsetting teams this year.

Also, that guy has Duke as a #1...bleh... I have neighbors who are huge Duke fans so I really really hope they dont get it a 1 seed. Just so that will bother them :cool-new:

Nashville would be a definite possiblility. My house to the Pit in Albuquerque is 594 miles. My house to Nashville is 762 miles. My house to Omaha is about 300 miles. My house to Louisville, KY is 702 miles.

While I would definitely make the drive to Omaha or Albuquerque, Nashville starts getting questionable. I guess it is just an extra 168 miles but after driving about 9 to 10 hours that extra 2 1/2 hours gets tough.

I was looking for places that I would drive to, Omaha and Albuquerque are definitely drivable for me. Nashville is a maybe. Louisville would also be a maybe.

                            • Jason King is high on the Shockers. Read all the way to the bottom as he believes we will go far in the Tourney

March (and Madness) have to wait one more day. In the meantime, King's Court looks at which teams are peaking at the right time and which are fading fast.
