Nice interview with Coach Fogler yesterday on the Drive. Classic Eddie, and worth a listen if you're not one (of the many) haters. Radio.com rewind.

I listened to it Doc. Hater might be a little strong, but dislike will do fine. Glad that Lew, Coop, and he are/were good friends. That said, nothing else in that interview changed my mind. In fact, a couple of things quietly confirmed my feelings.

Has been crazy for a long time. Just last year some clowns were lying to all of us saying it was a hoax and like a miracle it would disappear in 15 days. But hey all you have to do is drink clorox to defeat the virus.

Take it to the political forum. No need for this here.

Texas Rio Grande Valley coach Lew Hill died after fighting covid and another illness - The Washington Post

When the team bus arrived back at campus around 3 a.m. Sunday, Renee Hill was parked there waiting for her husband. It had already been an emotional 24 hours for Lew Hill, men’s basketball coach at Texas Rio Grande Valley, with the Vaqueros losing on a last-second shot at Texas Southern in their first game in three weeks, followed by the difficult news Hill delivered to his players in the locker room after the game: He was stepping aside, effective immediately, to focus on his health.

On the 5½-hour bus ride back to campus, he phoned his athletic director to convey the same news and to ask for a meeting in the morning, which was Super Bowl Sunday. He didn’t sleep on the bus, even as Saturday night bled into Sunday morning.

The Hills, married for nearly 21 years, kissed each other as Lew bent his 6-foot-5 frame into the passenger seat. They talked on the ride home. Lew said he was tired. He showered and went to bed. Renee went to wake him around 8:30 a.m.

                      ----
In January, Hill received two sobering diagnoses. The first came after a nearly year-long search for what was causing chronic fatigue, including multiple trips to Houston to see various specialists. It was, doctors finally told him, a rare bone marrow disorder called amyloid light-chain (AL) amyloidosis, which causes organs and tissues to thicken and eventually lose function.

Then came the second diagnosis: the coronavirus. Upon receiving the positive test Jan. 22, Hill immediately began isolating at home, and the team, as so many others have this college hoops season, was put on hiatus for 10 days. It resumed practices Feb. 1.

                        Man, really sad.

I am kind of confused though. He was over Covid enough to resume activities but it contributed to his death?

Seems like the other ailment was a major factor. But it also seems like COVID has some lingering impacts.

No doctor here. However, when one has organs that are struggling enough that one is taking a leave of absence, that would definitely qualify as a co-morbidity. His immune system had to be on overload.

A great Lew Hill memory I have is at the game at K-Sate in the 85-86 season, Gene's last. WSU was struggling, but clearly had some good pieces including Lew. It was at the old Ahearn Field House, which was a fun place to watch a game. It was not awesome, as it was basically a high-school gym witch a capacity of 12,000 or something.

Anyway, I was on one of the end zones when WSU was on offense. Lew takes a pass and drive the baseline and throws down a big dunk. It definitely silenced the crowd. That was also toward the end of Jack Hartman's career. He recruited a 28 year old Army veteran (nothing wrong with that), Norm Coleman, which allowed them to limp through the Big 8.

Did that team in 85-86 even have a senior on the roster? That team had at least 4 freshmen (Sasha, Praylow twins, Grayer), Lew in his 1st coming from JUCO, Santos, H. Carr, and Cundiff were Jrs, and a couple of So. getting most all the play. They still managed a reasonable season in spite of all the new players.
