That wasn't Twansac. It was Izreal.

I disagree. 2nd OT was no joke and the players were in slow motion. Tekele came in and gave instant life. Unfortunately he gave us too little in the way of offense, but when we were down 6 we edged our way back with fresh legs. Haven't you ever run a long distance race? Once you hit a wall you are useless no matter how awesome you are when rested up.

You disagree with the first part or the last part. I just said that there are two ways to look at the same situation.

Oh, I disagree that sticking with a "known-quantity" in that situation, when they are exhausted, is ever a good idea. There's no reason to continue playing someone who is "done". BUT, that said, coaches almost never sub their best players out at overtime because they assume the other team is equally exhausted so it's relative, and they can't emotionally deal with going to the less experienced players at the most stressful point of a basketball game. So I understand why it doesn't happen, it's just counterintuitive. If a coach was a distance runner and remembered what its like to hit the wall I think he'd have less conflict in making that type of decision. An experienced player who has hit his wall is much worse than a hungry freshman with completely fresh legs, in my personal opinion.

I didn't hear the show or the caller, but there's no way WSU at Davidson is an elimination game unless WSU has another hiccup or two along the way. And I don't even think losing at Springfield would be a hiccup, although a win there would certainly get the bad taste out of everyone's mouths.

My only concern about a loss at Springfield is that it makes the matchup at CU really meaning less unless CU also drops a game along the way.
There needs to be something on the line to keep a little pressure on CU and keep that carrot hanging out there for the Shox.
I think we are a physically tough team but mentally, I some times wonder. We really missed TM and GS after they fouled out at Drake.

My concern with losing at Springfield is giving them the excuse to keep calling us "not a state". It's juvenile and annoying. They still think they are hot **** for (finally) winning the conference last year, despite being a major let down this year.

                  lol, that bothers you?

No Wichita isn't a state but it is a state university, if they are to stupid to grasp that concept who cares. Last I checked Southwest Missouri isn't a state. Don't put too much of your own personal pride and ego into a bunch of kids playing basketball and then you won't worry about losing in Springfield.

I really agree with the fact that if thats the worst/most original thing they can come up with then its pretty pathetic. Whenever I hear that chant I always think "Wichita is a state...a state of mind".

I was in Palm Springs last year for some winter golf and remember that game clearly. I have to admit - I thought the T-shirts were clever - when you think of the Valley having Missouri State, Indiana State, Illinois State, and Wichita State - they do have a point . . . all are states but us - obvious solution is to rename the state of Kansas "Wichita".
then I guess you would have University of Wichita in Lawrence and (oops . . .) Wichita State University in Manhattan.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

First question is how big of hiccup will this present one be? Hopefully they will get the ship back on course Wednesday - but it is not assured. And as many players that were thrown under the bus last night I don't think anybody really know how this team will respond.

2nd question you have to ask is how many more game will WSU lose this season - WSU is going to lose again this season. WSU first half schedule was weaker than the 2nd half schedule and they had 2 losses.

IMO, looking at the Wichita team sheet, WSU is not a lock for at-large yet regardless of what the talking heads are saying right now. They really need to win in Omaha. If they win at Omaha then the BB game probably doesn't matter either way, but if they lose at Omaha then their record vs Top 50 is 1-4, and then yes I do think BB start looking like a elimination game especially if they don't sweep MSU and UNI.

we're at the point where we really need to win at Mo State to make up for the Drake loss. We lose this next game and we're probably moving to the inside of the bubble with small margin for error moving forward. Our timing with Patterson hurt could not be better because it sure does feel like MSU gets fired up every time we play them.

I personally feel like tomorrow nights game is the toughest we have left on the schedule. If we win that one "look out"! We always play Creighton tough and I don't think that our next game with them will be any exception.

I also just want to mention that even though we vent during a game in the game thread and blow off steam on here, that I think it's bad form to call a coach and question his decision making.

We sit in what my chess master buddy used to call the "see all" position -- under no stress with instant replay and slow motion. Its a very different "angle" when you are sitting at the table, facing an opponent, with a clock winding down, and you are trying to focus on both the opponents strategy and develop your own pieces.
