Doc, I don't normally disagree with you, but will in this instance. I know that Coach gets really tired of having fans (who have little to no basketball knowledge or skills) second guess him all the time. Why didn't you put Jake White in when Carl didn't seem to be getting the job done -- why did you keep Kyles in when his shot wasn't going down -- why didn't you switch to zone defense in that instance -- and on and on and on. It has to get to Coach, but he is paid to have thicker skin. Just answer the question as best you can but don't ask the guy to call back so you can embarrass him even more. Tom had the guts to call back knowing what was coming and he kept his composure all the way through Coach's putdown. Coach has answered these same stupid questions with great dignity for four years and maybe he was due for a slip. What I find unfortuate is that one guy was singled out; the other 402 idiots that have called in the past with the same exact type question gets off the hook. I think Tom's biggest mistake was in his timing. Maybe Coach was still angry about the Drake loss and the Bracketbuster selection? One slip in four years is acceptable (because I am one of Coach Marshall's biggest fans), but I don't think Tom is an idiot, but to put him in the same class as Dennis and Ron is unfair. Those two still have my vote for mastering the art of asking the most obvious and inane questions ever.

It's okay, Tom, we forgive you!

The love affair that everyone has with Jake White confuses me. Not that he won't be good someday, but....

I think the same way about EO.

Sorry Shoxlax, I am not Tom. I have never called into the Coach's Show, but I do try to listen every Monday. I just felt bad for Tom and don't think he deserves to be compared to Dennis and Ron. They have no equals (at least as of yet).

It's not actually the question that was bad-Why didn't Jake White play?-it was the way, or I should say lack of, the way he worded it.

When Drake is fronting Garrett and also playing off of someone to play behind him, don't you want your four to be able to cheat away from the basket to hit wide open shots? Since Carl's range is a foot, why not put Jake in there to open up the middle a bit? He has shown the ability to hit the outside shot.

That's how is should have been asked.

I have a comment and question.

                          1. I don't think I will be calling the show. I might ask something dumb like "How many times in your coaching career has a player gone 1-12 and 0-8? Just wondering."

                          2. Are some or all of the practices open to the public?

No love affair, just logistics. Give me Hall 95% of the time. When he is dog tired and exhausted in the 2nd overtime, give me fresh legs. That's what I was thinking during the game, so I'm guessing that's where others might be coming from?

Putting someone in that's cold may work and it may better to go with a tired player that you know more what you'll get in a pressure situation.

That's not what he asked. The caller asked why Jake White wasn't playing more? He should have said that J White had a nice game against SIU and showed some potential. How has he looked in practice and how would you compare his play with Carl Hall? When asking a question about zone defenses, ask what his philosophy is when he plays a zone? Coach likes to talk basketball with shocker fans but I don't think he likes someone calling in after a game particularly a loss and criticizing his decisions. Coach has his beliefs and watches a lot of film on each team to develop a scouting plan. He goes by his knowledge of his team, his knowledge of the opposing team, and his philosophy. He's not perfect but he has a track record of success. Call him up and talk basketball, not second guess every decision, and word he says.
