I'm also not the only one to rise out of my seat and yell for a good play or to give a ref a bad time. There are a number of season ticket holders who are the heart, spirit, and backbone of the basketball program and I'm not including myself in that fine group, not even close. They are very special people, so please be careful of who you are ashamed of and who pisses you off.

I'd say most not some. The second half of the Creighton game was horribly pathetic from the general population at the game.

oh please! Are people really that stupid that they won't buy a ticket for a team ranked 30th in the country (and a lock for the NCAA Tourney at the moment) but they would if we were 10 spots better? Those aren't real fans and I wouldn't want them at the game anyway.

      • Sorry in advance since this is coming from somewhat of an outsider and does involve criticism of the Athletic Department at WSU (at least the video production crew): the intro video that I saw this year (disclaimer: I have only been to one WSU game this year - the UAB game at Intrust Arena) was just sad. To begin with, there was hardly any audible sound (again, maybe this was Intrust-specific), and it seemed very disorganized; basically, it did nothing to rile up the crowd right before intros or tip-off. This probably won't be a popular opinion here, but I think emulating KU's intro-video concept would be a good idea - heavy dose of WSU basketball history (I'm thinking the Final Four appearance from the 60s, MTXE teams of the 80s, video of the big shot from the Battle of New Orleans against KU, the buzzer-beater against Creighton, and the 2006 Sweet Sixteen run) transitioning into this year's team and its highlights. Again, I only saw the intro at the UAB game so it might be different than what is played at CKA, but from what I remember there were basically zero "historical" WSU basketball highlights or legends featured, and I think that's a mistake.

Finally, I've noticed during the games I've caught on Metro Sports here in KC (which is just brutal, FYI - I'm glad the games are on TV but dear God, they look like they were filmed with a circa-2002 cell phone camera, beamed in from Mars) and at the Intrust game that the pep band hasn't been playing what I always thought was the WSU fight song (shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y6AoDfJBYk). Do they play this before the game? I noticed at the end of the Evansville game the other day they played a different song. I think it's a great fight song - why is it not being pumped out repeatedly?

        • Actually every game has been very close to being sold out. The worst attendance this year was for the Illinois St game with 10,078. That means only 417 tickets went unsold. For every other game the number of unsold tickets has been less than 400.

Most of the unsold tickets are unused student tickets that didn't go on sale to the public until 48 hours before the game and site obstructed reserved seats.

It isn't surprising to me that many people aren't willing to pay $30 to sit in the last row behind a pole. The GA unsold tickets are probably more a question of logistics. Most people don't realize that tickets become available when students don't take them all or they are not willing to take a chance on driving to campus, parking a long ways away and then getting to the ticket office only to find out there are no tickets available.

I think there would be better walk up sales if the Eagle would report how many GA tickets are available in their pre-game story (they use to do that in the 80s- under the time of the game they would say something like "approx. 200 tickets remain for tonights game" or "the game is sold out" etc.).

Our chances of a full house are much better when the students attend the games. And for some reason this year, student attendance has been pretty bad.

First of all the band doesn't play as much as they used to. They almost never play the fight song, they play "All Hail Wichita" in a shortened version at that, they almost never play the low brass cheer (or the current slower version of the low brass cheer I should say) except at the worst possible time, and they play a shortened version of dudley before each half.

I miss hearing the fight song too.

Same thing I was thinking, Eagle.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

                • When it comes to big picture/small picture, I have learned some important lessons from my Grandpa.

I was in a discussion about the most important part of a home theater with 4 gentleman. My Grandpa, a gentleman we didn't know at the electronics store, and a salesman from the store. Of course, the discussion wasn't fair as the kid (saleman) could not even explain the difference between and LCD and LED (Same technology, different light source). When the salesman and the other gentleman got into a discussion about what was more important for the first step of setting up a home theater when you couldn't afford to buy everything at once. Salesman says the TV. "What is the point of hearing something you can't see?" The gentleman thought otherwise, "What's the point of seeing something you can't hear?"

My Grandpa laughed. Smiled. Then interjected, "The most important part is having the house to put it in, and the means to afford it. Not everyone does, not everyone can. Too many people sweat the small stuff, and are ungrateful for big things in life that get overlooked. Take for instance electricity. I would also argue that is the most important part of a home theater, because without it, you have a TV with no picture and a sound system that produces no sound."

I know its a little off topic, but I believe there are some on here that might benefit from it.

                  • Just to clarify, Hail Wichita and Shocker Fight are BOTH fight songs for WSU. Hail Wichita to me is the primary, because it is the older of the two. That said, I wish they would play both at both mens and womens games. There is this myth I think that one is the "womens" fight song and the other the "mens" fight song. Incorrect. Both are valid for all Shocker games and worth playing.

When every sentence is started with "you" or "your" or "you're" then it's time for a PM, and not for the public forum to see. IE Fever your last post referred to im4wsu 17 times, definitely time to take it to a PM.

For awhile, Hail Wichita was considered the men's fight song, and the Shocker Fight Song was considered the women's fight song. I know last year, the band was playing both. I can't remember which was which, but I know when the team came ON the court, we played one, and when they went OFF the court, we played the other. This was generally during warm-ups and at halftime and after the game. I can't comment on this year in terms of anything with the band, but I know last year that the directors made sure to include both songs for men's games.

okay I did, but honestly I don't see how that has anything to do with the subject at hand.

I remember them always playing both at football games, but it does seem like they have always played Hail Wichita more at basketball games (mens). But this year the one I call the Shocker Fight song seems to have disappeared entirely at men's basketball games and even Hail Wichita is played in a shortened version.
