Notes: Missouri St. exposes CU deficiency
Creighton's inability to slow Missouri State's Kyle Weems and Anthony Downing once they got going Wednesday night underscores what could be a crucial deficiency in the Bluejays' defense. "We don't have a good enough defender to put on somebody... »
defense is what won the game for Missouri State. The Bears held the Bluejays to a season-low 38.2-percent shooting from the field and put the brakes on the transition attack that had been so productive for Creighton in its 10-1 start.
Unlikely that Echinique, Gibbs and Manigat will only combine for 9 total points against the Shocks like they did against Missouri State.
This game is a great opportunity for the Shocks to put Creighton in a hole. We need to turn around our 6-3 MVC home record from a year ago and we need to start that with a win on Saturday.
OTOH, Creighton has put itself in a bit of hole. This is not a must win for them but it would at least offset the home loss to MSU if not totally trump it.
What may be more important than how we handle McD is how we handle everyone else.
I am expecting a real battle. May simply come down to who wants it the most.

Creighton is going to be quite pissed after losing last night. They're still a damn good team and will fight for this one. However, the Shox are playing great team ball and CU I think is going to try and run with us. I think that'll be a mistake and I believe we can take care of business.
Watching highlights of the CU/MSU game last night I saw something that is bothersome for CU...McDermott doesn't appear to be putting a lot of effort into defense. He didn't put a body on guys when a shot went up, and that will cost CU dearly against WSU. Also on offense he forces a lot. Let him get the ball and try and be a one man show, that wont beat the shox. Can't wait to watch Orupke put one back in his face from the help side! Get physical with McDermott and I think WSU will steadily walk away from CU.
