Kind of like this, but not Larry, and certainly not wearing a Celtics jersey.

Speaking of Larry Legend, remember when he ball faked a pass over Eric Kuhn head, waited for him to turn back and look at him as he released a 3 from the corner!.

I remember the Shockers closing out a home victory over the Sycamores when Larry threw a pass to himself off the backboard and slammed it home before the buzzer sounded. I recall being surprised by his athleticism.

All Smithson recruits. How many assists/points did the kid from Illinois that fogler benched in favor of guffrovitch have?

        Don't remember or I wouldn't have asked.

Remember when Double Dribble used to pick WSU to win 82-78 and Duke T. would come off the bench to score somewhere over 20 points?

Remember when Rosewood told SN all about his stale nachos he bought at a game?

Remember when Warren Armstrong got a jump ball tip over a 7-footer? Then an offensive rebound was available as he flew in, jumped up and grabbed the ball above the square and slammed dunked it hard on the way down. At 6'2", he may have had the best vertical leap of any Shocker. If not, he was amongst them. And what an awesome all around versatile player he was!!!!!!!!!!!

His name was Joe Griffin. He was an assist machine. I think Joe reported in a little out of shape at the beginning of that year and Eddie took offense to it?

What were his numbers against ranked Bradley? I was at the game, but I don't remember his stats for the game.

after moving recently, I'm still searching and not finding a book that might have that. I was also looking for his assists in a game record. I think it was 16. Somebody will help us out on these answers I hope.

I'm probably off a year or two... Bernard Jackson? Can't seem to remember when Fogler arrived?

Hell, players even quit back in the 80's; where's my shocked monkey meme...

This thread is awesome if for no other reason than the Sasha video. What a great find ! Shocks were ahead of their time really in getting these European players to the states. Go Zarko Durisic !

Joe played 32 minutes that game and had 7 assists, but he wasn't the only one with assists. The Shocks had 26 assists that game.

By the way, for anyone wanting to look stuff like this up themselves, https://goshockers.com/sports/2015/6...tatistics.aspx . Boxes are available through the 75-76 year, but can be spotty.

IIRC, the Shockers went to Yugoslavia in the late 70's or maybe early 80's and recruited Zarco Durisic and his sidekick Zoran Radovic; Sasha Radunovich came after the X-man and the Yugoslavian pipeline spigot shut off.

Remember when Gus Grebe believed late in a game that a win was assured, usually after a made shot, he would declare, "PUT IT IN THE OLE DEEP FREEZE!"

What I don't recall is if he did anything symbolic at his broadcast position at the scorers table to let the fans in attendance know?

I do remember a game against Louisville and Junior Bridgeman in 72-73 where Gus put it in the 'Ole Deep Freeze' with about a minute to go and a double digit lead. Well, the Cards came back to send the game to overtime and it was the only tome Gus take a win back out of the freezer as the Shockers lost in OT! As a kid that was sacrilegious!

Been a long, long time ago, but as I remember it, the Shockers were invited to play in a tournament in California, and I believe we were one of the top teams favored to win it. Not too many sports fans East of California had even heard of Bill Russell and KC Jones, nor San Francisco University.

Most likely that was the biggest shock and surprise any Shocker team ever has ever ran into. The Don's also had one other player who was pretty decent as well. Can't remember his name.

The 1954-55 San Francisco Dons included 6-5 Senior All-American Forward Jerry Mullen in addition to Juniors Bill Russell and KC Jones.

Mullen was the 2nd round (13th overall pick) of the New York Knicks in the 1955 NBA Draft. But there is an interesting twist to the story that ties to Wichita.

Instead of signing with the Knicks he chose to play AAU basketball with the Wichita Vickers where he played for 6 seasons including 1959 in which the Vickers won the AAU title. Jerry passed away at the young age of 45 in 1979.

And, now, you know the rest of the story.
