But I don't see Coach Marshall leaving Wichita State except to retire and spend more time with his wife and kids. Remember, while South Carolina is home to him, Wichita is now home to his kids as they have been here 5 years now.
I agree with all this ... but .. the counter argument to the "home to kids" thing goes like this:

"Son, I know we are having to move to another city, but I'll be able to add a million dollars to your trust fund."

Suddenly his kid won't mind exploring a new place. :)

aTm is sporting a 207 RPI right now. For comparison that's within 8 points of Bradley (199) and Illinois State (215). I thought moving to Maryland was a head-scratcher. Now the move starts making more sense. If Turgeon ever leaves Maryland, sell the farm and bet against Maryland the next year.

Now, now, now. No hatin' on the coach that restored this program!! Be thankful because without him there would be no Marshall. Maybe think of it like the unwritten rule that past presidents don't talk about the new guy.

I heard it best said like this. A team is only labeled a mid-major if it beats a BCS school. The word mid-major only appeared in the post KU/Davidson stories because KU lost. If KU wins, it's just another win. If they lose then it's a loss to a mid-major school.

Another way to view it is that mid-major means "we actually have student athletes who go to school for four years" BCS means "how long do the majority of our players have to stay here before going pro?"

Never as far as I am concerned. I will not use that term when talking about WSU.

So what does MT's opinion of 3G have to do with the price of tea in China? :friendly_wink:

"Coach where you are loved." As long as this community is behind him and continues to offer the kind of support that it has in terms of travel, facilities etc, I think that he'll stay. The city has embraced Coach and his family....I hope it continues to do so.

                This.

Remember in 2006 when we played at the same NCAA regional site as Marshall's Winthrop team? He had a glimpse of the kind of support Turgeon had at WSU. He knew what he was walking in to here. I don't expect Marshall to be here 10 or even five years from now, but it will take a similar situation to pull him away.

So basically, whatever the university can scrape together for Greg, thats what he gets? No effort from the fans to ensure he stays for the rest of his career? $500,000 per year from
the fans would probably do it. Ok, well start up the coach search thread cuz he will be gone after this season.

What? I didn't even bring up his salary. Did you intend to quote someone else?

My point is that as Capitol Shock stated, Marshall's stated philosophy is to "coach where you are loved", and that I think for him to move on it is going to be to a program where he gets that same sense about it. I don't think money here is going to matter much if he thinks he can take over a solid power-conference program and be treated as well as he is here.
