WSU started the season out with a nice win against Colorado in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Challenge, but would end up going 1-2. Does anyone remember why WSU performed so poorly? Was someone hurt?
After trashing a couple of buy-teams, the Shockers would have another big-time opportunity with the visiting Runnin' Rebels of #18 UNLV. This would also be Mike Kennedy’s 1,000 game of calling the play-by-play for the Shockers. Also, seemed there was a lot of smack-talk between UNLV and WSU prior to the game, particularly from UNLV as they had just beat national title contender the #1 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.
"The smile on the face of Wichita State's Joe Ragland (Rags') as he answered questions from the media Sunday looked familiar. It was the same one he flashed numerous times during Sunday's game against UNLV (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP), the one in which he made eight 3-pointers and had 31 points to lead the Shockers past the previously undefeated Runnin' Rebels 89-70. "Once I made the first couple," Ragland said, smiling sheepishly, "I figured I would keep shooting whenever I was open." Man Rags' was on-fire. He was hitting from the locker room, the concession stand, hell even from the parking lot. It was nothing-but-net all night for Rags'.

Wichita State would pick up another couple of good wins during the next week by turning the Reynolds Center in Tulsa to "Koch Arena South" and whooping up on the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, and then by beating the Utah State Aggie's in our revenge Bracketbuster Game from the prior year.
December 7, 2011 - Wichita State at Tulsa
December 10, 2011 - Utah State at Wichita State

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkpIJStEnLk This link was the Shocks upset win over the number 1 team in the Country, the Zags in 2013. Try out this starting line up for size.
1. Armstud 2. Demetric Williams, 3. Cotton 4. Hall, 5. EO Get this!!! Three future NBA Shocks started out on the bench by the names of Baker the "Freshman Maker" Cle, and FVV. Those 3 players were all like 3 John Havlichek's and were the key catalyst in this sweet win. Guess what Jake White did? Took a charge and was laid out like a smashed pancake. Guess what happened? No whistle and the guy scored. Then on the next play guess who got called for a charge? Jake White. Kind of COLD, but the story continues. Then Jake makes a big 3 pointer and a tip in at the end of the 1st half, right before the buzzer. Cotton made some big shots too. It was 2 Freshmen. Baker and FVV that had ice wata in their veins to send the Shocks onward to LA. If you play for Gregg Marshall, even the future NBA players pay their dues and don't always start. We made the Final 4 that Season after losing 4 key starters from the Season before, and being picked for a 4th place finish in the Valley.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Marshall is an asshole and we shouldn’t be celebrating his successes.People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov
