agreed... I'd bet Stevenson as ring leader. Good luck to all of them... But we will have 13 scholarships filled and Marshall will adjust, learn from this and rebound. GoShox

No worries, all those 3 and 4 star recruits left. We have plenty of offers out to some good 2 star prospects

If true... Kellen needs to go grow up at another program and learn. Players are not going to take him serious when he works under his father. He definitely has not earned the right to ever yell at another player. If anything he needs to stay calm and bring a different approach then his father. Help the players stay composed when they get pulled.

That's just not a sustainable dynamic.

Orchestrated by ES...right. All of these other guys - most of whom don't like him supposedly - are just going to go along and make a life-changing decision to show up HCGM at the lead of ES?

            • Probably a little harder for 4 star guys to play “with a chip on their shoulder”. GM might have to adjust a little.

ES seems to be a bit of a prack.
I guess I was wrong about him.

Those that want to leave, GTFO. And let’s start over.

IMO the players have and are taking your advice.

Please step off the ledge and go look at the recruiting forum. There are like two dudes who fit your description (and one of those guys, Jamahri, looks pretty good). The rest are either JUCOS or transfers from schools like Ole Miss, ISU, Pitt, and UNLV.

No guarantee that we’ll get any of those guys or that they’ll pan out when they get here but let’s not just ignore the reality of who we’re recruiting in service of the freak out.

With this mentality... We are going to keep rebuilding every year... instead of reloading.

                    • Now that JB's mother, JB's sister and SN posters have had the opportunity to post regards Marshall's exclusive interview with The Eagle; I thought I would post a synopsis of the main points in the article - IMO some questionable statements made in the interview

                      Admissions by Marshall -

                      1. "What I’ve got to do is reevaluate what we’re doing because I dealt with things this year that I’ve never dealt with in 35 years of coaching,”

                      2. "I had to learn. I’ve got to get better. I’ve got to adapt."

                      3. Darron Boatright has reached out to the coaching staff, the players leaving and the players staying to hear all sides of the story. After initial conversations, Boatright remains confident in Marshall’s ability to lead the program.

                      4. Marshall said he made a mistake in his roster construction when he and his staff filled nine scholarships in one offseason.

                      5. Most talented depth Marshall had ever assembled in a backcourt, which he thought would be a team strength. Instead, it became the biggest issue for the team. In trying to satisfy all of three of his point guards, Marshall in turn fully satisfied none, which led to Burton, Sherfield and Fernandes pursuing opportunities to be full-time point guards elsewhere.

                      6. “There was some inherent competition there,” Marshall said. “Maybe the sophomores thought they had done something when they made the run last year in the NIT and then all of a sudden these highly touted freshmen come in. It was very difficult to keep everyone happy."

“7. I didn’t do a very good job of managing the personalities. We basically had 13 starters. We had a lot of really, really good players. But you can’t play that many, so no one was happy.”

                      8. “If I was leaving, I wouldn’t be grinding on these recruiting calls 24 hours a day,” Marshall said

Concerns expressed in the article -

                      A. Burton, Stevenson and Sherfield decided to leave despite all playing at least 24 minutes per game and combining for 57 starts this past season.

                      B. Marshall - "What I’m telling you is that’s (playing time) not enough. They weren’t pleased with that. My job is to try to win and their job is to try to play as much as they can."

                      C. In an interview with The Eagle, Stevenson said the WSU coaching staff diminished his confidence on the court and was also guilty for the turbulent nature of the season.

                      D. The departures have made Marshall reevaluate a lot of things, but the way that he coaches in practices and in games is not one. But he did say he has to do a better job of maintaining the culture within the program.

                      E. As it currently stands, Trey Wade (senior), Asbjorn Midtgaard (senior), Dennis (junior), Morris Udeze (junior), Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler (junior), Etienne (sophomore) and Josaphat Bilau (redshirt freshman) are all still on WSU’s roster with 2020 recruit JaDun Michael also signed. (of course MU has now left and rumor is out that one more is going to leave).

                      F. Marshall believes WSU can still be competitive next season, despite the departures.

                      G. “We’re working hard to get our roster back. And I love the nucleus that we have coming back, I really do.”

                      H. “I don’t think coaching side of it was the problem, it was not being able to manage the personalities and having too many guys for one role,” Marshall said. “We have been successful here in the past by recruiting young people that wanted to be a part of something special, and a part of something that’s maybe bigger than themselves. And that’s what I’ve got to get back to.

                      I. “I’ve got to get back to getting guys that want to come in and be coached and be developed on and off the court and win. That’s something maybe we’ve gotten away from a little bit and we’ve got to do a better job.”

Given the Tweeter messages posted on Shockernet IMO Marshall and Boatright have failed to understand the "why" of the departures and next season will be a long one for Shocker basketball fans.

Melvin, I see your point, but we looked completely overmatched against the 'long armed' Houston, Cincinnati and Memphis teams. In my opinion, their "3 and 4" star players shined brighter. Longer, taller and better overall athletes. They appear to have multiple Dexter's.

                        • Yes, Marshall and Boatright, two people who are closest to the program, access to speak with all parties involved, and would have more information than anyone else have failed to understand.

Shocker1976 Meanwhile hardworking twitter detective with no axe to grind whatsoever has got it all figured out and knows the true story.

I don't want to short change Tyson Etienne. I liked him the very first time I watched him play... he's a stud, he's a dog, he's a 'big time' athlete and plays with his hair on fire. His only shortcoming might be his size, but he makes up for it with desire.

That because they have multiple 4-stars and a 5-star thrown in for good measure

I probably should have left Memphis out of that reply; it's not really fair to compare our athletes to theirs... should have wrote Houston and Cincinnati.
