My thinking tells me that I don't know as much as they do, and I think I know a lot. So I trust them. And unless you have a virology degree, I don't trust your "thinking for yourself" more.
That would be the "worst doctor" scenario I mentioned earlier.

BTW, this is my last reply on this. If you want to have a "Pardon the Interruption" type discussion, look elsewhere. This is more serious than opinions.

Thanks Boston - and your one of the soft whinny weak types I was referencing. The name Boston says a lot about you. Keep on
trying to reek havoc in our program and others will soon catch on to your agenda.

Dr. Fauci is one of, if not THE, most respected ID specialists in the world; he literally WROTE the section on infectious diseases for the book used to teach ALL OTHER DOCTORS in the US and likely the world (Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine). If he says we should avoid unnecessary gatherings of over so many people, then BY GOD I believe him. (p.s. you should, too!)
Lets assume for a moment that Dr Fauci would agree with my statement and I'm betting he would.

"I think everyone would agree that if everything we are doing, including cancelling everything, were done every year, it would cut thousands off of that death tole."

Would you then think they should be implemented every year since they would save thousands of lives?

              • Billions of dollars of wealth have been lost. Millions of jobs will be lost in the coming weeks. Perhaps we will save a life by all these cancellations, maybe two or three. But maybe not.

What a bunch of soft, whinny and weak people and our institutions have become. Very sad. A soft school system all
the way from elementary thru college that is more interested in left wing indoctrination than education. We better keep the wolf away
from our door cause the majority of the adult population is scared of a sneeze and won't defend a dam* thing. A country boy can survive.
The irony...This is a forum related to a University! You know, an institution of higher learning! Country boy or not, you are as ignorant as a mule!

                    • The thing that makes this virus so dangerous is that some will get it and only have light symptoms. Those people will continue to go to work, go to public places, continue their normal daily lives. In the process of that they will probably infect 10 or 20 people every day. If that happens we NEVER get rid of it.

Flu is seasonal. We get rid of it every spring. No one knows if Covid is seasonal. If it's not and those with light symptoms are able to pretty much continue their normal lives, eventually pretty much everyone over 80 will be dead and a lot over 70. Take a look at Washington D.C. and take a look how that would work out in our government.

Ebola has low transmission and infection rates because it is fatal and fast-acting. People with ebola die before they are able to infect many other people. Covid could be similar to Typhoid Mary. She stayed healthy. It was just a lot of people around her who died because she infected them.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

From the article I linked (that some chose not to read) R⌀

                            • R⌀ is the average number of people that an infected person transmits the virus to.
                              • If R⌀ is <1, the epidemic will burn out.
                              • If R⌀ = 1, then epidemic will continue at a steady pace.
                              • If R⌀ >1, the epidemic will increase exponentially.
                            • Current estimates put R⌀ at ~2.5-2.9 (Peng PWH et al, 2/28). This is a bit higher than seasonal influenza.
                            • R⌀ is a reflection of both the virus and also human behavior. Interventions such as social distancing and improved hygiene will decrease R⌀.
                              • Control of spread of COVID-19 in China proves that R⌀ is a modifiable number that can be reduced by effective public health interventions.
                              • The R⌀ on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship was 15 – illustrating that cramped quarters with inadequate hygiene will increase R⌀ (Rocklov 2/28).

                              • On another note. I just went to the store. It was pretty busy. People stocking up for the apocalypse. I was just trying to do my normal grocery shopping when something really pissed me off.

It wasnt the toilet paper shortage. It wasnt the bottled water shortage. Or even the Campbell soup shortage.

WE HAVE A FROZEN PIZZA SHORTAGE PEOPLE. I DONT MEAN TO ADD TO THE HYSTERIA. BUT THIS IS FREAKING SERIOUS PEOPLE!!!!!!

                                Ok, carry on.

Edit: sorry. Just trying to lighten it up a little. We may all disagree or be divided. But the one thing that is a fact is....we are all in this together.
