I love JE in many ways, but top 5 centers do NOT struggle with layups and get two foot shots blocked....

And they are better passers - something ALL our bigs struggle with. I thought JE was a fairly new to the game player. ???

I think by today's standards they are bigs and I would include Antoine Carr and Xavier McDaniel. Antoine played inside and outside because he had to in different situations, and X played mostly inside but he could step outside too. Cliff and Sasha both played as much or more with their back to the basket and guarding bigs too. There were never 4 out and 1 in during those days. That is a recent phenomenon.

I always thought of Sasha as a 5. Probably one of the better passing big guys I've ever seen. Ozell Jones was solid but had a BIG supporting cast. LOL. Gus Santos? Forward or Center? And Henry Carr? His free throws were always a trip but he had his moments.

Totally agree. You get two foot shots blocked when your shooting a stupid layup instead of dunking the ****** ball. But one thing that was nice last night was that TE took a ball to the rim , scored, and put his body between the defender and made the shot. If he keeps improving in this area he will really be good. Fred was really great at that.

I also noticed HCGM pointing to himself after that fiasco. ES was probably just following orders, but I also question why he didn't look at the scoreboard too!
Coaches, players and yes officials have to know score, time and situation at all times. Just zero excuse for that to happen.

TW and in crunch time JB saved the night, but they were also very fortunate to have some things go their way.
Case in point - on JB's game winner drive, DD committed an absolute illegal screen on JBs defender. It was obvious and fortunately, Stephens didn't blow his whistle for once. I saw it when it happened and was big time surprised it wasn't called.
JE could learn a thing or two from TW about going to the rim strong. TW didn't mess around with lay ins or tips. He just went strong and dunked the damn ball at every opportunity.

ES did take some really bad shots last night, but he sure plays hard and doesn't quit after a mistake. He also has a rebounders mentality when snaring them. That type of effort will always get you on the floor for HCGM, despite some of the miscues.

It has already been said mucho times, but Sunday @ SMU is huge. Like really, really huge!

It is becoming clear we will have to take the bad with the good with ES as far as individual play is concerned. Tremendous physical talent and effort but little self ability to control it. My bigger concern with him, is the potential this type of player has to rub team mates the wrong way.

While GS is getting the headlines for being disgruntled, I believe ES has a lot to do with why he is disgruntled. Body language, particularly at timeouts, indicates there is not a lot of love for ES from GS and several other players.

Being at the game as soon as this happened I looked at the bench... GGG clearly pointed to himself the same as a player would when they make a mistake. He looked right at ES and with both hands acknowledged that it was on him. Which, I applaud him for that. However...... HOW THE HECK DO YOU SCREW THAT UP!?!?!?!?! You are paid & your assistants are paid for exactly this situation, know the time and score!

I guess its my fault though, I've been begging for him to coach his players, to help them out. I saw him coach up Noah during a FT attempt (in a good, positive way) and he clearly had a discussion with ES about the end game situation and make a coaches decision. Got the must have win, somehow, but I'll take it.

I honestly don't know what to take away from last night's game. When THIS team shoots 50% and 43% from 3 I would assume they won by probably 30+.

I felt like we should have lost. In fact if not for a couple of calls going our way late (Rose was absolutely hammered on his arm on a jumper late with no call) we probably lose, to a bottom of the league team, on our home court, in a game that had to mean 10 times more to our team than theirs.

20 assists on 28 buckets is really good. Yet we were all but dead with 4 minutes left. I don't know, it's just tough to figure out.

Thought the crowd was off our game too.

Again though, how does THIS team shoot 50/43 and barely win?

Probably something to do with all those free throws Temple was shooting while the Shockers were usually not driving and forcing a defensive reaction. The Shockers barely got into the bonus the second half!

IMO the crowd was off our game because of all the boneheaded turnovers by WSU, Temple constantly going one on one and throwing up circus shots that went in, dumb fouls by WSU, guys losing their man and allowing easy layups, uneasiness because we all knew what a loss would mean, and a general lack of belief in this team to pull out a close win.

When people say the "crowd was off" for any particular game, that is usually dictated, at least in part, by team play.

Turnovers that lead to and-ones, Going from up 7 to trailing. That's going to take any crowd out of the groove.

It doesn't just happen at WSU, but everywhere in the country.
