Offering deep discounts at the last minute again this year will surely guarantee slow tickets sales next year as well.

With the slow ticket sales this year, I doubt if this promoter will be back for a second helping.

Do we have a game scheduled at IBA next year? If we play Tulsa at IBA again then we have a 10,000 ticket head start as far as paid admission goes as I assume that would be part of the season ticket package. What I don't know is what are the economics of playing a true home game at IBA vs Koch Arena. How much does it cost the University to rent IBA (which BTW is losing money this year)? Is it worth it? Or do we just bide our time until KU, KSU or a big name opponent agrees to play us at IBA (which may never happen)?

If they are so worried about ticket sales then why in the hell is this game on cox 22.

A)The arena isn't losing money. There is a contract, and the management company is responsible for eating the any losses. Maybe this is an issue in several years when the management contract runs out.

B)Many people, including me, bought early to get the best seats. I don't mind doing that. Some do, and I understand that. Future promoters will decide what the best way to turn a profit is, and I suspect WSU will have almost as good a shot as anyone at landing a good IBA gig.

C)If you don't go because of a money crunch, I totally get that. No problem. You have to take care of more important things, always. No grief from me. We've all been there. I've been there. Also, if you have travel or family plans around the holiday, again, totally get that. Completely understandable.

D)If you don't go out of spite because you think they should be in the season ticket package, you don't think UAB is "worth it", you want a "bigger name" to justify or you don't like where you might have to sit, then you suck as a fan, period.

Get out of the cave and enjoy the 21st century.

          E) Just get your butt to the game.

From comments Marshall has made, playing games at INA helps recruiting. If they really believes recruiting, you would think they would want a game of some sort there every year.

Pretty sure it is not. I've been told 3 different times by 3 different people that should know. Can this be verified?

I'm thinking the Tulsa series included 4 games, 2 at home neutral sites and 2 in the home arenas.

Are you sure it's on Cox 22? When I look at the guide, the only thing it shows on channel 22 for Friday at 7pm is High School Football, Salina South at Salina Central.

In spite of all that I've posted, agreed. C) took care of the legitimate reasons and the $15 for 2 seats takes care of D) even if your in the top row and a Scrooge.

Nevertheless, this transition to IBA has not been a smooth one. Had the years been reversed, UAB last year as part of the ticket package and a more reasonable initial priced Tulsa not in the season ticket package this year, things would have worked much better. I know you can't always have it the way you want, but Tulsa would have been the type of fan interest draw to get all the fans out, even the ones that didn't care for their "arena experience" the previous year.

I was going off what I read on this thread , but just saw in another thread where someone said it is not. I really didn't see how that made much sense to have this game on tv. Sorry for the confusion #newbie lol

I'm not really up on the details of IBA financial operations. I just remember seeing a recent headline that IBA had lost $200,000 plus so far this year. Whether it is the Sedgwick County taxpayers or the management company losing that money is not terribly relevant to WSU or other users. I assume that whoever bears the risk of loss also controls the rates they charge IBA users. If those rates goes up that makes IBA even less attractive to 3rd party promoters (especially if tickets sales are an uncertainty) and to WSU if we are in a scenario where WSU has to rent the arena to host a game they could otherwise host at Koch Arena. Whether the real or perceived benefits justify those costs I can not say.

According to this schedule from goShockers.com the first game on Kansas 22 is the UNLV game:

After listening to some of Sports Daily this morning it sounds like there is some of this fit-thowing clearly going on. How much is really hard to say based on that anecdotal evidence.

All I have to say on this subject is this...boo frickin hoo fellow shocker fans! Come on! I live 1,400 miles away and I don't get to see ANY games in either Koch or IBA! I would kill to just see one game every year. The only time I get back during the season is around Christmas and the team is usually on break, so I don't get to games. Swallow your pride, if that's what it is and get your butts to the arena and support this team and be a real fan. Man, have we become spoiled or what?
