Thanks to both of you for answering. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I just had not heard that statement and was surprised, again, given JB's time on the team. Regardless, it's refreshing that we have two very talented points, three if one includes Noah (but I'm not quite there yet), who can spell one another and allow us to keep the pressure on the opponents.

We have only 1 players who is just starting his 3rd year as a D-1 players and he played relatively sparingly his 1st two years. We have 6 players with 1 year of D-1 experience and we have 5 D-1 newbies, one of which appears to be redshirting, among our 13 scholarship players. A veteran team this is not. Other than that though he is right about the Shocks being a potential sleeper. They should only get better by the time March rolls around. The Shocks may very well be that underseeded team you don't want to see in your NCAA bracket next spring.
Odd hill to die but okay.

When you factor in the returning players and the amount of game time seen in arguably the toughest schedule the school has ever had to play - Pretty veteran.

As young teams Go we have decent experience. But the fact remains we are not a veteran team. Even Coach Marshall has made that observation.

RH: THREE THINGS TO WATCH - WICHITA STATE VS WEST VIRGINIA

            1. Shocks lean on Erik Strevenson

            2. Asbjorn plays better against other plus sized bigs

            3. The Mountaineers strength is defense and offensive rebounding

The Mountaineers saw enough of Wichita State to know a big deficit is a big problem.

"They're better than (UNI), so if we get down early it's going to be even tougher to come back," McBride said. "Just come out with energy and keep playing hard."

              Shockers-Mountaineers Game Notes

              SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
              • WSU and West Virginia have never met but came close on a couple of recent occasions during the NCAA tournament. Both teams lost 2015 Sweet 16 games in Cleveland (WSU to Notre Dame and WVU to undefeated Kentucky). The 2018 bracket called for a second round matchup between No. 4 seed WSU and No. 5 WVU in San Diego, but the Shockers were upset by No. 13 Marshall University.
              • Both sides rank among the national leaders in rebound margin and field goal percentage defense.
              • West Virginia was picked fifth out of 10 teams in the Big 12 preseason poll, released back in October. 6-foot-9 forward Oscar Tshiebwe was named preseason freshman of the year, and Derek Culver was honorable mention all-conference.
              • The Mountaineers (15-21) accepted a 2019 CBI bid and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2018-19. It was the school's 15th postseason appearance in 16 years.

Taylor Eldridge: Five keys for WSU basketball to beat West Virginia and win the Cancun championship

                1. Keep West Virginia off the offensive glass and the free throw line.

                2. Don’t let Derek Culver get going in the post.

                3. Once again shoot at least 20 free throws.

                4. Keep West Virginia out of transition.

                5. Protect the basketball.

If Tuesday was WSU’s first test of the season, then the Shockers aced it. South Carolina was bigger, longer and more athletic than any team WSU had faced prior this season, yet the Shockers handled all of those obstacles extremely well for such a young team. And the good news is that South Carolina plays an almost identical style to West Virginia.

There’s no doubt that West Virginia presents a step up in competition. But it’s a step up that I think WSU is ready for. The Shockers have the depth at center to handle West Virginia’s size and Trey Wade proved on Tuesday that he can guard a much bigger player in the post and hold his own.
Taylor's Prediction: Wichita State 72, West Virginia 66.

I only want to see one thing... a continuation of the intensity on both ends of the court. If we win but play like the Shocks of recent (last couple years) I'll be very sad. If we play smart, play extremely hard whenever our name is called, I'll be very happy. But how do we lose if we play like that? Very, very poor shooting would be the only way. If that happens I'm totally cool.

C'mon Shocks, give me back-to-back Play Angry games for the first time since forever. That will indeed be a lovely early Christmas gift.

Grill fired up and Sam Adam's Oktoberfest #1 about to get cracked open. Now THAT's some pregame discussion.

Sound more like pregame consumption that easily segues into in-game consumption resulting in the elimination of WVU or equivalent substances by the time of the final buzzer.

I was just offering an opinion for why Sherfield is starting over one of our best players. Obviously Sherfield is talented, but Burton has been playing better since his return.
