The banquet welcoming the eight teams competing here in Puerto Rico just concluded. It was great seeing Tad, Jean P, Mike Rohn as well as Mark T. All were very accessible. Of course, 3G was playing the tambourine and leading his team in some Puerto Rican dancing. David Kyles ended up on stage. Great time.

WSU appeared to have the most fans here, with Purdue next. Can't estimate how many, though. This was the Tour group only.
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

2011-12 Season Opportunity #1 - will the Shocks make it count this year?

They could. They should. They must.

You know in looking at those images I see:

David Kyles: Calm and collected, stalking the opponent for an opportunity to strike.

Northwestern dude: "Dooohh, I am sooo out of position."

Alabama dude: "Please, God, I know I've missed the last several shots but let this one go in."

A few things I see different with our team so far (certainly subject to change). This teams plays a more aggressive perimeter defense, looking to make steals and create offense, versus the more traditional defending the basket defense of previous Marshall teams. Two, this team has more pure shooters than previous teams. Three, this team passes the ball with more zip and purpose than previous teams, and also looks to share the ball better than any WSU team in recent memory.

If they can maintain these qualities and play to win, and stay away from playing not to lose (as I think they have done far too often in recent years) then I like our chances tonight.

Play to win guys and everything should take care of itself.

Totally agree. The key is the unselfishness IMO. Looking back on all of our great teams, even as recent as our Sweet 16 year in 06, they were great passers, made the extra passes, and weren't consumed in 1 on 1 garbage. If 1 player tries to do too much, it can affect the psyche of the whole team.

I too am pretty confident in our team if it goes by this basic philosophy and just plays within themselves. Everything else will work itself out.

This team seems to pass rather than dribble. This was emphasized at the VIP practice where several of the drills were "one dribble" per person once the ball was across half court. Then the dribble was allowed, and it showed in their comfortability, but they understood. I thought our passing the first 10 mintues vs Charleston So was fantastic.
