Emporia State vs Wichita State Game Thread

Stats per 40 minutes

Baker, Cotton, Wessell, Hall, and Anacreon played from 9:11 (59-32) to 5:30 (73-36) for a 24-4 performance. They did have 4 turnovers, but still......


Here are the stats for each player assuming 40 mintues played.

Now I loved the other intro piece....that was made for the fans. If you didn't like that you don't like WSU.

Folks, 9 turnovers works. 2.5 assist/TO ratio works. This team shares the ball very, very effectively. I will have more comments later.

I'll put in a Prouty rating for last night's exhibition later this evening. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but Ragland had like a 0.686 and I believe Hall was in the high 0.500's.

Yep, Batman piece sucked and team intro piece was pretty good...

My thoughts as well. As far as the game went, here are my thoughts...

White looked lost on D and was more impressive at SM. He did have a nice step back fade that I think he'll use A LOT over his career. I still think he could help us this year if we need him.

Anacreon looked better than at SM, but that doesn't necessarily say a lot. He may come along and give us the opportunity to redshirt White. It's kinda like Stutz FR year, a RS would have been great, but can we afford to. Hopefully James gets it and gives us that ability. Either way, I think White will be fine.

I'm not sure how you RS Cotton. We have good depth but the kid is good and is a hellacious defender and I don't recall him making mistakes on offense. He didn't really look to shoot, but when he did, it looked good.

Wessel still needs to work on his D, but looked pretty good regardless. The kid is going to be a player and could help us this year. Nice looking shot and aggressive. Looked comfortable and smooth for the most part. He should RS.

Baker isn't shy either and looked comfortable. I look forward to seeing what he can do....Next year.

Ehimen looks much better. He needs more confidence but he did have a nice hook from about 5 feet or so that didn't count because of a prior foul. He was definitely a factor on D and rebounding and don't recall a foul being called on him. He'll be good for 10-15 I think to give Stutz a blow.

Stutz is a stud. Enough said.

Rags will lead this team to great things.

DK didn't do much, but he did it all within the flow.

Smith is quiet. But quite good.

Hall is a BEAST. He may be able to average a double/double :) He'll get plenty of points off of boards and from the line. I love this guy.

DWill look confident and under control.

We're going to be good. Especially once they start to get more game time under their belt...

Rodman....I'm going to call Hall Rodman. There's nothing close that he won't get, and there's nothing NOT close that he won't get.
Some compare him to Blair. He's better than Blair - and I love Blair! He'll rebound more; he'll score more.
I guess we can scatch "replacement for Blair?" off the list.

Here's what I feel confident saying about this team:

1)This team shares the ball as well or better than any WSU team I can remember.
2)This team will not be as good as last year's team in the half court defense.
3)This team will be the best full court pressing team at WSU in 30 years, minimum.

I love the moxie of the newcomers. They have drive and heart and a willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful. And they've got game.

I like this team.

I forgot to add 4) which means as much or more than the other 3 combined. We have a lot of players that make everyone else better. Garrett makes everyone else better. Ron Baker makes everyone else better. JT Durley, for all of his skill set and it was impressive, never made anyone else better until the NIT. Toure makes people better. Tekele Cotton makes people better.

It's really hard not to be excited about this team's potential.

Someone else is going to have to explain the IronWu replacement. I thought it was a cross between the dad on The Incredibles and Buzz Lightyear touring Wichita in an updated Tron-like vehicle.

The pre-player intro intro showed some players mixed in with highlights while being narrated by 3G. It highlighted all time program accomplishments while Coach talked to the team, telling them to give everything they have and the fans will love them for it. He extolled the virtues of the fans, beyond what we deserve imho, but it was an emotional comment designed to extract an emotional response. It concluded with a mention of last year's NIT champions.

I suspect that it will remain the same but it wouldn't surprise me if that last part disappears after Sunday. Sunday they'll unveil the banner, then it will be mentioned no more. You have to re-earn it every year.

And this coach, this team, this program is focused on different goals.

I think it will remain the same, in part because the narration that occurs while the video displays 2011 NIT Champions is "This is only the beginning."
