Last week, Memphis was ranked #14 AP and #15 Coach's in the major media polls, wouldn't be surprised to see them drop a few spots today with the James Wiseman eligibility issue.

"College Basketball Power Rankings:..." - Sports Illustrated

        BY MOLLY GEARY
        11/15/19, 7:30am cst

Kentucky's loss to Evansville left room at the top for the Blue Devils. Who else made our Top 25?

"We're a week and a half into the college basketball season, and we've already seen two AP No. 1 teams fall. Many teams are still awaiting their first test of the season, some of whom won't get it until Thanksgiving week tournaments. It can be tough to sort through and balance the narratives of résumé vs. expectations this early, so SI's power rankings start with a mix of preseason reputations and on-court results.

        Top 25 Power Rankings
        16. Memphis (2-1) - The spotlight has shone brightly on the Tigers in the last week amidst the James Wiseman saga, and after falling to Oregon in Portland, Memphis declared the forward ineligible on Thursday and will apply for reinstatement with the NCAA. Now it's a waiting game to see if he'll get to return this season. Without him, the team's ceiling is considerably lower but still holds a breadth of talent.

Up Next: vs. Alcorn State, vs. Little Rock

        21. VCU (3-0)
Despite blowing a 15-point first-half lead, the Rams held on to defeat LSU for a crucial win not just for them, but also the A-10 as a whole. VCU forced a whopping 26 turnovers and had five double-digit scorers (led by Marcus Santos-Silva's 17) in the victory.

        Up Next: vs. Jacksonville State

        23. Oklahoma (3-0)
The Sooners have been one of the pleasant surprises of the first week-and-a-half, beating Minnesota on a neutral floor and Oregon State in Portland. Neither of those wins are earth shattering, but they're the kind that start building a résumé and will make a difference come March. Sharpshooting Wichita State transfer Austin Reaves is averaging 17 points despite shooting just 33% from three so far.

Up Next: vs. William & Mary, vs. UMES..."

"College basketball Power Rankings:..." - ESPN

          https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...k-top-how-long

          "So, uh, last week happened.

It's often said, most notably by Mike McDermott in "Rounders," to always leave yourself outs. While the weekly Power Rankings might not be considered high-stakes gambling, hedging predictions is always a sound strategy. In other words, don't make Kentucky No. 1 and then write: "The Wildcats don't have any true tests on their schedule until late December ... get used to Calipari's Cats at No. 1."

Because when that same Kentucky team loses to Evansville at home about 36 hours after the rankings come out, suddenly the Power Rankings look ... not great.

          Lesson learned.

          15. VCU Rams (4-0), Previous ranking: Unranked - This week: vs. Florida Gulf Coast (Saturday)
The Rams' defense was never going to be an issue this season, but VCU's ability -- or lack thereof -- to score consistently was the only thing keeping it out of our preseason top 25. But after putting up 83 points against LSU last week, Mike Rhoades' team has the makings of a legitimate second-weekend threat in the NCAA tournament. VCU ranked in the top 10 nationally in defensive efficiency last season and won 12 straight games to end the regular season, but their offensive output against good opponents left something to be desired. Having five guys in double figures against a good LSU team brings some optimism on that end moving forward.

Dropped out: Villanova (No. 10), Washington (No. 14), Memphis (No. 16)

          In the waiting room: None"

First game was a 13 point road win against Miami.

Nothing against Evansville (Go Purple Aces!), but come on AP voters. Of course this might not be the Evansville (Evansvilled) of old...
