This is wonderful news if it happens.

Maui, Atlantis, Puerto Rico, Cancun. I'm drawing a blank right now, but what other tourney's would you consider to be on the higher end of things? The one at Disney?

There are several where 4 teams are guaranteed to go to the final round even if they lose, which always have big name teams but penalize non-BCS teams by excluding them even if they win (Coaches vs. Cancer, CBE Classic, Legends Classic, etc.).

The 76 Classic in Anaheim is usually decent. The one at Disney is the Old Spice Classic and is generally good as well.

@pinstripers: - the Alaska tournament is often a weaker field than many tournaments.

The Battle of Atlantis? Does that require scuba gear to particpate?

The Great Alaska Shootout used to be the best. But six or seven years ago the NCAA changed the rules on exempt tournaments. Then ESPN stopped doing the broadcast. That pretty much destroyed it.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

The Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks wasn't half bad either.

It's been the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving for the past few years so I would assume it would be the same this year.

Most of the field has been set and can be found at Cancun Challenge website, someone can post a link if they like.

Probably the least appealing tourney field we've been involved in quite some time. Current RPI in parenthesis.

                        'Premier' teams are Iowa(118), DePaul(178), W.Kentucky(268), WSU(27)

Teams of which the 'premier' teams get two each of at home prior to Cancun are W.Carolina(242), Howard(305), Austin Peay(199), TBA.

Ugg, I'd like to go but this field is less than exciting on first glance. I suppose Iowa could be better next year.

This "Thanksgiving" tournament appears to be actually around Thanksgiving time, which means maybe I can make it. I really don't like my family or relatives anyway so this could work out well.

Well, I have no problem being the "Negative Nancy", the "Debbie Downer", and the "Angry Annie" all rolled up into one---but THIS SUCKS!!!

As of today, even if the TBA team turns out to be Syracuse RPI #1--the average RPI for teams will be RPI #168.

                              As a comparison:

                              the Average RPI for the 2011 Puerto Tourney is RPI #64 (as of today);
the Average RPI for the 2010 Maui Tourney was RPI #61 (as of the end of the season).

Coach Marshall better be working his tail off to get Austin Peay and the TBA team (take your chances they can't get any worse) in the first two rounds, and then hope to get DePaul in Mexico in the first round, and hope that Iowa wins their side of the bracket and we (WSU) faces them in the Championship game.

Keep in mind we may not be a top 50 rpi team next year. I am very exited about the talent we have coming in, but who knows how quick it will all come together.
