Wichitan Joe Mitchell Joins Shocker Basketball Program
Junior Josh Walker Leaves for Personal Reasons
WICHITA, Kan. — Joe Mitchell, a 6-foot-1 junior guard from Wichita, has joined the Wichita State basketball program, Head Coach Gregg Marshall announced today.
Mitchell helped Southeast High School to a second-place finish in the 2009 Class 6A tournament. He earned All-State honors and averaged 22 points a game. In 2008, Southeast won the 6A title with Mitchell. He then went to HCC, where he was named honorable mention All-American after his sophomore season. Mitchell averaged 18.2 points and 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore. He also led the Blue Dragons with 138 assists and 51 steals.
In addition, junior Josh Walker, a 6-foot-8 forward from Derby, Kan., has left the team for personal reasons, according to Marshall. Walker played in 10 games for the Shockers in 2010-11 after transferring from Pittsburg State.
