Wichitan Joe Mitchell Joins Shocker Basketball Program
Junior Josh Walker Leaves for Personal Reasons

WICHITA, Kan. — Joe Mitchell, a 6-foot-1 junior guard from Wichita, has joined the Wichita State basketball program, Head Coach Gregg Marshall announced today.

Mitchell helped Southeast High School to a second-place finish in the 2009 Class 6A tournament. He earned All-State honors and averaged 22 points a game. In 2008, Southeast won the 6A title with Mitchell. He then went to HCC, where he was named honorable mention All-American after his sophomore season. Mitchell averaged 18.2 points and 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore. He also led the Blue Dragons with 138 assists and 51 steals.

In addition, junior Josh Walker, a 6-foot-8 forward from Derby, Kan., has left the team for personal reasons, according to Marshall. Walker played in 10 games for the Shockers in 2010-11 after transferring from Pittsburg State.

Hope there is nothing serious with Josh. I appreciate his efforts as a Shocker.

Not many programs added a Juco All American as a walkon at the last minute.

Coach Marshall continues to improve the program at every opportunity.

Walker may have led the nation in shots blocked per minute, but the kid always busted his tail and at least had nice size. Hope everythingis alright with Josh.

Joe Mitchell is a very solid player. He really wanted to come here out of HS but we didn't go after him. Happy we got him.

He'll sit out this year as a transfer (he took classes at Ohio with financial aid in the summer) and have 2 years remaining to use in 12-13 and 13-14.

Doc, are you saying Ohio has released him?
