    Gents:

We want a big time opponent to come to Wichita and play Wichita State. You get that opponent by showing promoters you can fill an arena and make a profit for them.

Look at Gonzaga and thier neutral court games. They and the host school make a TON of money, and have no risk and incredibly high reward.

The next step is fill IBA, then next year it gets better, and then it will get better again.

You might check your facts about who set up this game and who determines ticket prices before blaming Sexton (or anyone at WSU for that matter).
Sexton makes the ultimate decisions on the direction of the program so he will either get the credit or the blame. I think there will be some critiscm when those who are not well informed gets this game on their radar.

I talked to some season ticket holders (who are not shockernetters) at work about this game and ticket prices. They were suprised this game was not in the ticket package and then when told of the prices felt like they were being ripped off.

The only reason we have this game is because of a deal an outside promoter put together to get UAB here. Are you saying that you want WSU to pass on games against quality teams?

We have this game instead of either road game or a game at Koch against a horrible buyout team. Last year everyone talked big about how they hated those buyout games and wanted to see better competition in Wichita. Now that it has been provided, people are complaining about the way it is being provided.

The reason we could get UAB to come was because of the buyout provided by the outside organizer. How does that organizer fund such a buyout? Through the generated ticket revenue. If you want quality competition, put your wallet where you mouth is.

Let me sum it up even more simply:

An outside organizer comes to WSU with an offer that:

                1. Gives WSU a large buyout
                2. Allows WSU to play in Wichita
                3. Gets WSU a high quality RPI opponent in UAB

Are you telling me that you want Sexton to turn down that offer?

Checked KSU's message board to see the response of the ticket prices for their game. Not one complaint...judging by the excitement in the thread theirs will be a near sellout.

I'm sure I'll spend more than $67 for the Tulsa game.

It's probably an excellent deal for the program, no argument. I won't be going, tho.

Don't kill the messenger. I will be at te game (probably not at floor ticket prices though) but as long as I can get some decent tickets in the upper bowl.

Here is the deal. Season ticket holders are asked to purchase their season tickets on faith (no schedule is privided). When they find out that one of the better games on the home schedule is not part of package? Do u think they are going to be happy?

If hosting games at IBA is such a scheduling and profit windfall for wsu then why don't they have all their games there?

How do you not understand that WSU did not organize this game? This game could never have been part of the ticket package.

As to being a windfall, in this case it only is because of the buyout being offered by the promoter. It may be that the promoter vastly overestimated the profit to be made on this game and won't make the money back. The reason the tickets are expensive, however, is because that is the way the promoter would be able to both lure UAB to the game and hope to turn a profit. Maybe they will fail to turn a profit, but it isn't WSU taking that risk.

If it were actually a home game...but it's not. It's a neutral court game. Which is the same reason why Maui tickets were not included in the season ticket package last year or the LSU game.

How is it you can't understand this is nit going to be a public relations nightmare with season ticket holders?

Plus I don't believe scheduling UAB type team could never be part of the season ticket packages. That us probably what you want want people to think. It is only good game because rpi purpose but suspect if u asked average fans about whether they wanted UAB or Iowa st - they would choose Iowa st.

The level of ticket prices for this game will no doubt price some Shocker fans out of the market. Whether that will be significant or not in the big picture remains to be seen.

Not sure how many non-season ticket holders or casual fans will be enticed to attend at these ticket prices.

When push comes to shove I supect we will have a decent crowd although I would be surprised if we get anywhere near a sell-out.

Right now I'm leaning towards attending. I see the game time is still TBD. I suppose TV considerations are involved with setting the game time. Having the game the Friday after Thanksgiving will be a plus for some and minus for others. Perhaps a net positive.

This may have to be my Christmas present for this year.

I could understand that argument if it was true. Sullentrop (on shockwaves) said this game would be a home game for rpi purposes. Is he wrong or are u wrong?
