And, evidently, Cowboy is too young to remember the great games against Cincinnati in the early 60's

Was it not Bobby Knight that thought A. Sabonis was the best player in the world at that time?
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

          1. FSU NIT game.
          2. In high school ('86 or '87) our pep band came from Buhler to play in place of the WSU band over winter break. It was my first D1 game. I have no idea who we played or if we won. But it was huge for me at the time.
          3. Beating #10 CU in 2003 at the Coliseum.
          4. SIU in double OT, 2006. Miller had 30 points.
          5. Clinching MVC title against Illinois St. in 2006.

                  6. I can’t leave the greatest college basketball player of all time off my list, but I can’t think of a specific game. So I’ll pick the spring 1985 game at Levitt versus Bradley where X was looking to pad his leads on Dan Palombizio and Alfredrick Hughes to become the first player to lead the nation in scoring and rebounding. I don’t remember specifically, but I also think it’s pretty safe to say that Hersey Hawkins went for 35 or so without a 3 point line and destroyed us like he always did in the Roundhouse.

                  5. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a ballboy for a season or two, so the next 3 have to do with that. I think it was Dwight Praylow with the 12 foot dagger off the glass at the end. Wichita State 54, University of Kansas 49. ‘Nuff said.

                  4. 1987 – Gene Keady leads his #3 ranked Boilermakers into the Roundhouse. I got the unenviable job of being waterboy to the Purdue bench, sitting directly behind Keady. Sometime in the 2nd half of a heated game, the Shocks break Purdue’s full-court press yet again… and Keady goes berserk. He jumps up, face bright red, scowling and cursing, and kicks the bottom of his chair. The metal back of the chair flies backwards and slams into my knees. Needless to say, it scared the ever-livin’, ever-lovin’, compound, complex you know-what out of me. For a split second, he froze, we were looking at each other, and I think I saw an unspoken “sorry, kid” before he turned back around and started screaming again. Can anybody tell me who won that game? I was a little rattled after that.

                  3. 1986 or 1987 – The Fordham “Ice Bowl” game. (If you don’t know the backstory of one of the weirdest endings in Roundhouse history, read this: http://articles.latimes.com/1987-03-...m-university/2 ) During the second overtime, I was leaning against the basket support at the Fordham end of the floor when I looked over and saw a commotion on the Fordham bench. I didn’t watch or care about football as a kid, so I’d never seen anybody dump Gatorade on a coach. I was probably the only person in the arena looking at the bench wondering what the hell they were doing, holding the Gatorade cooler over the coach. Then I had to help clean the mess up. And as far as Gus Santos’ (I think it was him?) shot to win it – I’ll go to my deathbed saying that it did. I was less than 20 feet away from him, standing under that basket, and I swear I saw it out of his hand before the buzzer went off.

                  2. March 1983 – AC’s last home game. Hometown hero breaks the single game scoring record.

                  1. 2011 – NIT Championship in Madison Square Garden with my Dad. A special win in the center of the basketball universe.

                    3) FSU NIT Game
                    4) 2011 at Creighton game (breaking the streak)
                    5) Screw at the Lou against CU before the 1.7, (that last 10 minutes was the hardest I have ever seen a WSU basketball team play, it was pretty intense)

Most of my memorable moments come from personal interactions with the players and resulted in some great stories that will NEVER be shared on a message board. Forget about PM's. That ain't happening either.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

In the category of Basketball / single plays by an individual , I've still got to rank # 52's feat back in '65 ?? as a top 5 ever........ I don't think the play had much importance in itself , just spectacular.........
Warren Armstrong/Jabali came straight down the court on a 2 on 1 fast break. He had a guy coming in on the wing down low..... The defender was between Warren and the bucket , and when Warren took off ( he was behind the free throw line ) , the defender drifted back to cover the cutting guy on the baseline...... With his teammate covered , and not much else to do , and the rim rapidly approaching , he just went ahead and rammed it through....... Unfortunately , that was before collapsible rims , and he bent it up pretty good throwing down that thunder dunk........ The game was delayed for 40 mins or so to unbolt things , and hook up another rim...... It was OK , we had a lot to talk about during that period..........

Go Shocks , War # 52 in the Rafters........

I was present at that game Jackstraw. If there are any doubters out there, that's exactly the way it happened.

                              1. Dave the Rave leading the Shockers to a playoff win over Drake in Lawrence to put the Shockers in the NCAA Tournament
                              2. NIT loss to FSU. Best crowd ever.
                              3. NCAA home win of Iowa. Great 2nd half comeback lead by the Shocker fans.
                              4. Andrew Goudelock's shooting performance in the 2011 NIT.
                              5. WSU Volleyball sweeping MSU on 11/21/2008 in Springfield to cap a 29-0 regular season performance.
                              6. Watching the Shockers defeat the Jackie Stiles lead Lady Bears in her Junior season at a sold out Roundhouse.

I was at the game where Antoine scored his school record 47 points but I had ambivalent feelings about that. Antoine was a great, great college player and he does hold the record. However, he broke the record of my all-time sports hero Dave, The Rave, Stallworth whom I still believe is the greatest Shocker of all-time. Antoine put up his 47 against an out-manned SIU team and their was clearly a concerted effort by the team to get him the record (which is OK). The Rave on the other hand put up his 46 in the flow of the game against a National Championship quality team, the Cincy Bearcats. I know I shouldn't begrudge Antoine the record (and I acknowledge it is his record) but I still consider Dave's 46 point effort against Cincy to be the standard for offensive performances in Shocker history.

Wished I had been at the 1989 CWS. That had to be something special.

Another exhilarating TV moment form the CWS was the Throw (Jim Audley) in what many still consider one of the greatest, if not the greatest CWS games of all-time.

The most up and down I have ever been in such a short period of time was at the end of the Vandebilt NIT game. We go up on the Jamar Howard put back of an intentionally missed FT (which rarely works) then give up the Hail Mary at the buzzer.

Another great TV moment was the battle between #1 Wichita State lead by Dave Stallworth and #2 Michigan lead by Cazzie Russell with the Shocks losing a heartbreaker on a 35 footer by Cazzie at the buzzer.

                                1) Win over Tennessee
                                2) Win over #12 Creighton at the Coliseum
                                3) Matty's 3 to beat Creighton
                                4) Don't remember the year but when SMS scored maybe 4 runs in extra innings in the MVC tourney then we came back with 5 in the bottom of the inning to win it. SMS threw their ace pitcher on 0 days rest to close it out. SMS fans and players were celebrating as if the game was over before it was over, that win was very very sweet.
                                5) Coming back to win the regional after losing to New Orleans in the first game.
