Offense comes and goes with the wind. Defense is consistent, if the effort is consistent. I'd love to hear a few of the half time talks.

      1. WSU offense is better except in the 3rd period when compared to 2017
      1st Period +1.3 pts
      2nd Period +1.2 pts
      3rd Period -0.8 pts
      4th Period 1.8 pts

      2. WSU is giving up more points in all periods except the 4th
      1st Period +3.0 pts
      2nd Period +2.1 pts
      3rd Period +3.5 pts
      4th Period -0.9 pts

      3. This results in less separation in 2018 than in 2017 - especially in the 3rd Period. Bright side is that WSU has been a better finisher.

Someone on here talked about how Gregg was using his assistance game plan in the first half, and making adjustments himself in the second half. I'm wondering if this is true. I almost believe it.
One thing I will clarify though, our team isn't getting burnt due to lack of effort. Kelly and others are busting their butt on defense.

Coach Marshall knows what to fix in order to get the ship back on track. Defensively, we have given up more and the biggest difference appears to be in this order.

          1. On ball defense with the post pick at the top of of the key- Many teams are splitting the pick or extending the dribble for the pop

          2. Guards getting beat offf wing withoiut a screen.

          3. Ridiculous calls against defenders in paint with offensive players falling down with little to no contact, or offensive player lunging directly into defender. Problem is you only get the call if you falla and take the charge. We have some guys getting better at this.

          Solution
Coach Marshall will play with these combinations and eventually settle by cutting down his rotation.

McDuffie is back and his skills make us better on this end. Switching up between types of coverages with on ball screens becomes easier when he is playing.

FWIW - We were great on the perimeter defense when Baker, Cotton, and Fred played together. That group did not have the offense this team has shown this year or last. The 35-1 team averaged 75 PPG, the current team is at 86, last years team was at 81 PPG. Before gettting angry fans come down to hard the shot clock reduction may be the answer to this difference. with more possessions.

Think this team will be best by putting pressure on you and making you miss the shot over the top of our length. Landry and Austin have been effective plahying together in the 2nd half of several games. Have not seen us be as effective at taking people out of their offense and getting the steals of the group mentioned above.
