"Cal men’s basketball to face big challenge in No. 6 Wichita State" - The Daily California (Student Newspaper)

"As a glamorous paradise featuring beautiful beaches, glistening oceans and a laid-back vibe, Hawai’i has long been one of the country’s premier destinations for relaxation. For the Cal men’s basketball team, however, its trip into the heart of the Pacific will, mostly, be of the business variety, and it’ll have its hands full with a matchup with No. 6 Wichita State to kick off the Maui Invitational.
Much like the women’s basketball team, which faced the juggernaut that is No. 1 Connecticut in its second game of the season, the men’s team will be tasked with finding a way to overcome No. 6 Wichita State. In addition to No. 3 Arizona, which Cal will play in January, the Shockers will be the Bears’ toughest opponents of the whole season.
“We like to use our defense to help us with our offense,” said Cal head coach Wyking Jones. “High-pressure basketball, and we like to push it in transition as well.”
Along with the swagger that comes with being an elite college program, Wichita State will roll into Lahaina Civic Center having smacked University of Missouri-Kansas City and College of Charleston by a combined margin of 70 points...."

CF feels like he’s playing at the North High gym, scores 18. Cal has some size inside, let’s draw some fouls.

Bad news--Shocks had to struggle to defeat a Cal team the experts said would be an easy win.
Great news--all of us picked the correct winner.
Obvious news--goes down in the books as 1-0 as the Shocks advance in the winners bracket at Maui.
Great News--No excuses. Yes, it will really help when MM returns on both sides of the hardwood but this is allowing more players to get more minutes as we develop our quality depth.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
