  • Markis McDuffie is a Shocker!

"Six underrated players ready for breakout seasons" - USA TODAY Sports

    by Scott Gleeson
    Published 1:32 p.m. ET Nov. 8, 2017

Bryant McIntosh, KeVaughn Allen, Deng Adel, Shake Milton, Markis McDuffie and Jaylen Adams will be stars this year.

    "...Markis McDuffie, Wichita State

Point guard Landry Shamet is getting much of the preseason All-American hype but keep in mind McDuffie led the Shockers in scoring and rebounding last season, and will be the key in the team’s first season in a power conference. McDuffie excels in coach Gregg Marshall’s gritty style, and his motor is one of the best in all of college basketball. He’ll miss an early chunk of the season recovering from a stress fracture...."

"The most important thing in every major conference in the country" - ESPN

    Myron Medcalf, ESPN Staff Writer
    Posted: December 26, 2017

The holiday tournaments and the cupcake games are mostly done. It's time to get serious. For the Big Ten, that means finding a way to be interesting. For the ACC, it's an answer to Marvin Bagley. For the Big 12, as always, it's can anyone unseat Kansas?

"Conference play begins this week for most of the major conferences, and college basketball will enjoy a reset to the season in the post-College Football Playoff world. With a multitude of contenders in each league, it's difficult to know what matters and what's worth ignoring in the buildup to each conference season. We're here to help.

Here are the most important things to know about every meaningful conference race in the country:...

The American Athletic Conference: Markis McDuffie's return
Wichita State's early games featured Landry Shamet, who missed the bulk of the offseason with a foot injury, attempting to regain his rhythm. As he grew, however, Markis McDuffie remained sidelined by a foot injury.

McDuffie, who led the Shockers in scoring and rebounding last season, played nine minutes in a tough win over Florida Gulf Coast on Friday. He'll need time to hit his stride, too.

He'll improve and play more minutes in future matchups. But Wichita State's top competitors in the American, Cincinnati and SMU, know who they are. But the Shockers will know who they can be only once McDuffie gets into basketball shape, feels comfortable on his foot and plays with the same aggression we witnessed from him a year ago. The speed of that process will affect the conference race..."

"McDuffie's return fortifies No. 5 Wichita State" - The Sports Xchange

      Posted: 01/10/11

"The return of forward Markis McDuffie has No. 5 Wichita State rolling in its first season in the American Athletic Conference.

McDuffie and the Shockers head to East Carolina on Thursday to take on the up-and-down Pirates at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.

McDuffie led the Shockers in scoring and rebounding last year but missed the first 11 games of this season recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot. He returned in late December and has made a significant impact in his last two games.

"He's just an all-around good player," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall said this week. "He goes to the offensive glass. He hits the defensive glass. It's great to have him starting to look healthy and ready to go 100 percent."

McDuffie had 12 points and six rebounds in a 95-57 win over South Florida on Sunday. It was the Shockers' fifth straight win, the last four coming by double figures...."

McDuffie up 13 lbs to 216 from the beginning of the season. If he comes in next year at 225 that could be huge for shoring up the 4 spot.

Looks like a lady back in Patterson replied saying it’s not true and that Markis never said that.

              Interesting.

Looks like it might be his girlfriend. On a coaches show in the middle of the season, Marshall said players transfer every year, one reason he gave was having a girlfriend in another city....

On her Twitter, she actually said: "
Not 100% true! He didn’t say that ."

From that, I get that he didn't say it, but that he may very well be back.

I feel like part of this thread is missing.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

I guess what I don’t get is... what benefit would he have to leave? He isn’t getting drafted this year and sitting out and getting 2 years older by the time he could finish his senior year would not benefit him either. Odd

The only reason to wonder if McDuffie would leave is if he's able to graduate and go someplace else without having to sit a year.

As it is, he certainly isn't NBA-ready at this point, but if he can spend a summer getting himself ready and then stay healthy next year he could easily have a big season and be draft-worthy.

I hope this turns out to be true. This is his sister’s response when someone posted it on FB.

sorry it’s hard to read. His sister’s response was “Markis never said this btw!”
