I guess there is NO reason at all for KU to waste their time playing Wichita State. Just as there's no reason to play Colorado State or Miami of Ohio or Toledo.
Why don't you just answer the question?

What do you want me to tell you? That a game vs. Wichita State hurts KU? That it hurts more than a Longwood? That it gives taxpayers of Kansas a chance to see a game that BOTH sides want to see but WSU is not up to the caliber? That KU has a chance to lose (like they did at home vs Oral Bob and Richmond)? That they would leave their "comfort" zone? That they are better than that? That they are better than everybody? That they should just move to the NBA?

      ... No really, deuces.

        Answer any of these:

Why does WSU being in the same state make them a more desireable opponent in KU's eyes?
Why would KU see WSU as a more desireable opponent than any other mid-major out there?
Travel weariness may be a small factor, but why would KU benefit from playing a team that has a shorter distance to travel?
Why are you implying that playing Colorado State is a worse choice for KU than playing WSU?

Can we have a real discussion now?

How about you start answering some questions now? I've answered yours. Besides, over half the questions you are asking are from a KU perspective. I'm not a KU fan so I dunno and I don't care.

You seriously think Colorado State is a better opponent than Wichita State is for KU?

          Good Lord, this is pointless.

I agree with this. It would help WSU (& KU & KSU) to play one another but I'm not losing sleep over this issue.

Sorry Doc. Playing for the good of the game is not an acceptable answer to the questions Jamar/KU pry with.

It should all be about what KU has to gain and nothing else.

Why does North Carolina play Davidson?

Why does Texas A&M play Sam Houston State?

                Why does Portland play Oregon?

The single biggest reason a KU would not be interested in playing a WSU is the fact that they know there is a real possibility of losing the game. And since KU and other programs have built up a perceived notion that WSU is inferior to that of KU and other schools that field the great sport of BCS football, KU would never be able to live with it, so they simply avoid it or chickensh*t out of it and try to wipe it under the rug.
I believe the last time KU played WSU, the Jayhawks beat us by 50. I was there. I remember leaving with 5 minutes left because KU put in their scrubs. I was there the years prior as well, when KU beat us by an average of 35 points and embarrassed us in the Roundhouse.

This argument about "Why doesn't KU play us" only comes up when we are good. It didn't come up in 2008 when we were horrible and KU was #1 all season. If I remember correctly, many people on here said, "I don't want to play KU this year. Let's wait a few years when we're better". I'm beginning to wonder if many of us just want to play KU when it's convenient for US.
Why does KU play KSU? In most years, KU routs KSU. It is only when KSU is good that the game is worth playing.

Well I have an idea why not schedule a extra game to eachs schedule, therefore its extra moola for both
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

The NCAA limits the number of games you can play.

Year 1 - KU in Lawrence; KSU at IBA in Wichita

Year 2 - KU at Sprint in KC; KSU in Manhattan

Year 3 - KU at IBA in Wichita; KSU at Sprint in KC

Preferably with the games scheduled on Saturdays for maximum economic impact.

Kansas hosts the annual "Sunflower Showdown" tournament. Each year KU, WSU, KSU and one invited team gather at either Intrust Bank arena or the Sprint Center to play 2 games in a weekend. We can bring in a different team each year to round out the field. BCS, non BCS, it doesn't matter. Each team gets 2 games against a solid opponent and the winner gets bragging rights.

Technically it helps Kansas more when its held in Wichita but it would still be a great way to bring people into Wichita and Kansas City.

No, it's not fun getting your asses handed to another team. However, I think it's quite obvious the 90's were the deepest, darkest decade of our basketball history. Playing in the 90's probably wouldn't have been beneficial to either team. However, I wanted to play them in 2000. 2001. 2002. 2008. Whatever, whenever. We dominated and decimated KU and KState in baseball for a good 25 years. I know baseball is a different animal but I didn't wanna see them dropped off the schedule because we were beating the snot out of them.

We're very much competitive overall and no matter how good or bad EITHER team is, I wanna see the game every year. I truly feel that way. Sure I want the best chance to beat them, and it would be better for us if the games were competitive, but I want to play them. I just don't see the 90's happening anytime soon.. if ever again.
Probably one of the, if not the the first, argument on why to play KU from someone on this message board, and around Kansas, that I have no rebuttal for. Wasn't blinded by hatred or blinded by loyalty. Just a fan wanting to see a game.

                            :good:

I'd love to see the Shocks play KU and KSU as much as anybody, but this is just beating a dead horse. It's past that. The horse is totally decomposed. KU and KSU will never have the heuvos to play the Shocks.

Jamar, by your logic, whenever KU is ranked #1 in the nation, they stand to gain nothing by playing anyone, even the #2 ranked team in the nation.

Postulating odd questions with debatable relevance to the issue at hand, then refusing to add any more to the discussion unless someone deign answer your question, does not a good discussion make.

Just accept the fact that someone may not have a good answer to your question simply because it's not a good question and move on.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.
