  • Suellentrop...

Did Gregg and Suellentrop get crossways? I read all Paul's stuff and when he replaced Seminoff, it was enthusiastic and supportive which I liked. Now it reads like a backhanded compliment?

I didn't like seeing the editorial comment about Hamilton being gone and not returning when Coach mentioned on his radio show the same week that the door was open for Jerome. A kid reads this stuff in the paper and he probably is gone. I certainly wouldn't appreciate that if I was the coach.

The Shockwaves post was a disappointment given the achievement last night. How can this tournament title do anything but help recruiting...Jan's said so much this morning on the radio.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think I'm starting to read a little dislike in Suellentrops stuff. Maybe it's time for a different perspective?

Final comment, some people complain about how much a homer Mike Kennedy and Dave Dahl are. What are they supposed to be? If I'm a fan, I want my announcers and media people to be on my side in the trenches during battle. If you're upset that KU got drilled by VCU you probably shouldn't be the assigned writer for WSU. Just my opinion.

I've always thought he has done an adequate job as a beat writer, nothing more.

I wish HCGM had a better relationship with the local media. I loved hearing the inside scoop from Frank Martin every tuesday on Sports Daily.

I would love to get the same thing from HCGM.

It's funny you mention that because I'm getting the same vibe from him. It was especially shocking to hear defeatist comments like that coming from him yesterday in the Shockwaves chat.

"MVC will continue to get MVC caliber athletes"

"Why would this help recruiting, it didn't for the S16 run?"

I expect that kind of talk from Lutz. He's a typical jaded smart ass columnist. NOT a real basketball fan.

But Suellentrop always seemed different until recently. It feels like while everyone including the team, coaches, fans are enjoying this moment he and Bob are over in the corner casting their negativity towards anyone who my celebrate "a lowly NIT championship."

Well **** them both. If they want to cover WSU with that kind of slant then I'll quit buying their papers or visiting their website. I get enough BCS bias from ESPN I don't need to read that bull **** in the home town paper.

Or maybe I'm overreacting and he's just burnt out from a long season, pissed that he had to spend so much time with "Loots", or knows something that we don't.

If you want someone to blow smoke up your ass about how an NIT championship is going to change everything for WSU, shockernet is your place.

If you want someone to be honest, and cut through the high emotions of the last few days and tell you something real, Suellentrop has done a fairly good job of it.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Seminoff was not the WSU beat writer that Sullentrop. In fact I have heard Seminoff doesn't like WSU. I can't remember the guy name now, but he was worthless (and he didn't get along with WSU coaches especially Gene Stephenson).

I love Sullentrop coverage. Only reason why I still subscribe to the Eagle. Show me a example of some who covers another school better.

Everybody knows Hamilton is gone if it is true what he didn't in practice. Marshall has to be PC and spin it, Sullentrop doesn't.

Yeah, every kids goal is to go play and win the NIT.

Sorry, I don't want propaganda and spin I want the truth.

I know alot of Shocker fans who are KU fans and vice versa.

Yep, patently untrue. Kirk enjoyed writing a book on WSU during his time as the beat writer (good luck finding a copy, it's been out of print for ages) and is definitely a big Shocker fan. Fwiw, I used to work with him many, many moons ago.

That is not just untrue, it is stupid. (re Seminoff)

I think Sullentrop is a terrific beat writer and is very objective. Lutz on the other hand has turned generally negative. Not everything Lutz says is negative about WSU and think lots of things he writes is correct and funny, but his surly side about WSU gets a bit old.

                          1) Since when is "MVC caliber athletes" a bad thing? I think our conference has held it's own the past decade. As everyone likes to point out (over and over again), our conference has beaten, or taken Kansas to the breaking point, quite a few times the past decade in the NCAA tournament.

                          2) One season that's good every 5 years isn't going to help recruiting. Players aren't sitting at home watching the NIT Championship and saying, "Gosh, I really wanna win an NIT championship. For pete's sake, they air it on ESPN2! You can't get better than that!"

Sorry, an NIT Championship is basically only going to help merchandise sales a bit and gave us a little national ESPN pub. That's about it.

I believe any recruit that is even remotely interested in us has paid attention to our NIT run and how well the fans have supported the Shockers throughout. Everything has been positive about this postseason.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

As I've said in other threads this team made some the best lemonade from the most sour of lemons.
