I love being a devil's advocate. Good to see more substance to this post than just throwing out teams.

What do you guys thinks about all the other sports that schools support and how it would effect them? Do they support similar programs? Half baseball, half soccer. Half field hockey, half volleyball. This would seem to increase the cost of travel for all other sports as well. What other big hurdles might there be?

What if it were just a basketball conference? It would allow mids with football to keep it at their current level and would allow other sports have the same travelage(?), while at the same time launching the basketball program into national limelight.

          Butler

          Dayton, St.louis, Xavier

          George Mason, VCU

Thats 9 schools, geography a little weird but I think would make for a great league.
I like George Mason, VCU, ODU, etc., but geographically I think you have to leave them out. I really think Missouri State could fit in based on its metro area and geography.

I was young when C-USA was founded, but wasn't that based on a similar concept?

Edit: With about five seconds google research it looks like it was mostly just a merger of non-football schools from two conference.

Dayton and VCU were not invited.

Of course when you get your info from wikipedia it very well may be 100% inaccurate.

Missouri State and ODU (at least they will in the future) have football. My point is if something like this would work it would need to be teams without football.

              A) causes problems for the team trying to find a home league for football

              B) sucks money like a hoover without being part of BCS.

I'm all for exploring getting into a "Major League" conference. However, I have an honest question about another direction. With 2 teams leaving the Big 12, what are their plans? Would lobbying to become a non-football member have any chance?

I became curious because I've saw a Big 12 fan suggest picking up WSU, after being impressed with the Shockers in the NIT.

It makes sense. WSU and MSU to the Big 12. Geographically perfect and MSU has football. That would be enough impetus to bring back football as we could easily fill a stadium with KU, KSU, MU, OSU, and OU fans, let alone WSU fans.

It makes sense on one hand, for basketball, baseball and volleyball, but I suspect if the Big 12 wants to expand it will be to improve their football profile. Though with TCU having already gone to the Big East there aren't many regional options. Colorado St and Memphis, maybe.

If WSU decided to go in this direction and commit to football, there is no reason to think that we could not be as successful as CSU and Memphis. We are a much better geographical fit than Memphis.

WSU needs to, perhaps must, do something.

We're not getting football. unless someone donates about 12 million dollars to start it up. (then 4M a year to retain it)

Sexton has explained the process a gillion times.

It's not gonna happen, so let's try to accept that truth while we discuss this topic.

You get into a BCS conference, much of the money would come back wouldn't it?

This thread needs retitled to read 'Fantasy Basketball' because that's all it is, another exercise in futility.
