  • I really don't know anything about Coach Jans other then what I have read on this board.

Unlike 2007, when GM was the ONLY guy I wanted for a coach, I have no ideal who I would want this year, IF we have to replace him.

I generally am not in favor of hiring WSU assistants given our lack of success in that area (GaryThompson, Mike Cohen). Granted, Fogler was an assistant from North Carolina.

Having said that Nolan Richardson had no experience at the D1 level when he went to Tulsa, but had won a Juco NC.

If Jans can recruit as well as others "in the know" say he can, I would be open minded to it, especially considering the players coming back and coming in. Continuity would not be a bad thing.

HOPEFULLY, ALL OF THIS CONVERSATION IS AND WILL PROVE TO BE A WASTE OF TIME. :wsu_posters:

Not worth discussing because their is no way that will happen. I would love to have Tad as our head coach, but the time for that to happen has passed. Tad will not leave a BCS job in his home state, especially considering the success he has had since he moved back to Colorado, both at Nothern Colorada and at Colorado. Sorry.

        Dude, really?

Why would he leave his home area where he also happens to coach a PAC-10 team to come to Wichita State?

That has crossed my mind but since he's a native son I think that is wishful thinking...but don't we at least have to ask?

            Not so much.

              - Won in Omaha

              - Won in Carbondale

              - Won 28... and then 29 games

              - Made an appearance in the Valley Championship game for the first time since it had been in St. Louis

              - Won a (legitimate) postseason tournament, let alone a tournament at all

Those are just some of the obvious feathers in Marshall's cap - I'm sure there are others. Yes, a Valley championship would be nice and subsequent NCAA tournament appearance to go along with it, but that's not what happened. We did the best we could with what we were given.
If the next several years were going to be a repeat of the past, which would you prefer, the results of Marshall, or the results of Turgeon? I'll take a conference championship (in a strong Valley) and a Sweet 16!

              • I think OU may be interested in UCO's Terry Evans. He's compiled a pretty incredible record in the Div. II ranks. They are giving him an interview I think.

I agree with that. The question is who is best suited to lead us to those results. In my mind that would be 3G. If 3G does leave, then getting those desired results becomes much more of an iffy proposition.

IMHO if you remove Turg's Sweet 16/Valley Championship HCGM has been significantly more successful. The only problem is that you can't take that year away, it was too special, and it vaults MT success into firast place.

GM stays on one year, gets to a tourny and wins the regular season title and/or in StL, well that would be a different story altogether . . .

Edit: Also people like to claim MT left the cupboard bare, and there wer some slim pickins' when HCGM got to town, but Mark picked this program up out of the abyss and I will always be appreciative of that and he deserves long term recognition for his effort. To paraphrase MT "I know what you all want, I want it too and we are going to get it." And then he did.

                    • Somebody kinda mentioned this earlier, but if HCGM stays another couple of years, gets upgraded a notch or two, picks up some big-time CL kids, he could make a run (or multiple runs) deep into the tournament. He might then be hot enough to go to Kentucky or that kind of job.

                      • If he can get us to Gonzaga/Memphis status, then sure.

A LOT of things have to happen to get to those levels.

                        • Terry Stotts latest name to surface for the OU job.

                          • I'm a bit out of the loop on Marshall and what his long-term career goals are, but is it a foregone conclusion that WSU is just a stepping stone to another job?

Reading this thread it sounds like everyone agrees he will move on to a bigger program, it's just a matter of whether it happens this year or a couple years down the road.

Is it completely inconceivable that he could be our Mark Few?

                            • My guess is that Coach Marshall gets a new contract with Wichita State.

Rumors are that has already happened.

                                Who really knows though.
