  • NC State might offer a lot of money, but it's not a great job. GM knows State will always play second fiddle to Duke and NC. Can't believe that is what he wants.

    • He never said he was staying at the celebration.

      • I took it to mean he was saying it would take something next to an act of God for him to leave.

        • I think everyone should be careful to not read too much into what he said or didn't say. We should just enjoy the moment and let the staff and players know how much they are appreciated any way we can. Don't take away from the excitement by worrying if he is or isn't leaving
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

          • He's leaving. I mean he's staying. I mean....

Why waste energy trying to figure it out. It's more fun to speculate on who comes in if he leaves.

There is no way to make people happy with these very difficult to answer questions. What is he supposed to say to Susan? There is no good answer.

Every coach in America is open to a bigger better deal. It is what it is. I really think we will know something very soon. It's too bad, though, that this rally couldn't have been an opportunity for him to put rumors to rest, but the timing just wasn't right.

            • What does Self make at KU? What does Martin make at K- State? IMO, we need to have Marshall's salary at least in the same ballpark, otherwise we are mid-major.

We have proven we can play with the big-boys; if we want a coach to stay, we need to ante up accordingly, or face this same issue continuously. :wsu_posters:

              • 2008: Kansas signs Self to new 10-year, $30 million contract

2010: Frank Martin has agreed to a contract extension with Kansas State that will boost his annual salary to more than $1.5 million.

GGG makes quite a bit more than most coaches in the country. Coaches from outside the six power conferences earned an average salary of about $400,000. GGG makes 500k more than that. Also, power conference coaches average about $1.2 million a season. I say we're pretty dang close to the average.

                  • got this from the NC state board

From WTVD's Mark Armstrong through a Wichita ABC affiliate:

Gregg Marshall: "We like this community and we've got a great team coming back next year so it would take an unbelievable offer to get me to leave. I just don't know if that will come along. The bottom line is this is where we are, this is where our heart is, this is where our family is, our school, our church. Everything's here."

This is from the Susan Peters interview with Marshall that was featured at 10:00 on Kake. I'm done reading about the rumors and whether he stays or goes. It is his decision and I don't have any powers to influence Marshall one way or the other. I think we should enjoy the moment of being NIT Champs!
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

Hence the money/opportunity aspect is the most important angle.

                        • The Sun's report on Wednesday (on Krueger turning down interview) was accurate, according the newspaper's website today, but Castiglione wouldn't take "no" for an answer, and OU's third offer simply couldn't be turned down, according to the newspaper.
This is what makes me worried. IF Coach Marshall is one of the only "candidates" left, and everyone else has re-signed, then those "unbelievable" offers would start to flow.

He who worries about what he cannot control makes his life more difficult than it needs to be. Enough said.

I'm only worried because by the time things become IN our control, everyone else will have already made offers or re-signed to places, leaving the pool small, dry, and underpopulated.

We don't want to be average.
