  • How many firsts has this team set this season?

Throughout this season I have heard that this teams has set or tied a number of impressive records. I'm not talking about two or three but many. I was wondering if any of you engineers have been keeping track of these stats this season.

Couple that I think I've heard about:

First three game sweep of Bradley ever.
    Road wins
    Total wins
    Free throw percentage
    NIT wins
    Home attendance in a season
Most wins in consecutive seasons ever

I think for a few posters who complain that this season wasn't a success this might put things in a new light?

Not really. I love this team and everyone involved. But even if we win the NIT, this season will still be considered by me as less than what it should have been. This team will still have underachieved by falling flat on their face everytime an opportunity came knocking during the regular season and in the Lou. They racked up a lot of that against weak teams and in a weak conference.

I still support the hell out of this team, but I'm not going to consider the season a success because they've set a few records or whatever. They still fell short of the prize. And that is what it all boils down to.

Might not be a first, but we did sweep Creighton this year for the first time in a long time. :goshocks:

Sub- We are all disappointed that this team didn't make the big dance.

But we all need to enjoy the ride. This team has still accomplished more than most past Shocker teams. It is fun right now beating very good teams on national TV.

Only EIGHT Shocker teams have ever played in the ncaa tournament. And only one has won 27 games before.

This is a great ride and in my opinion might be better than a one and done in the ncaa (certainly not better than winning a game in the big dance).

So lets have fun and enjoy what is one of the best Shocker post seasons ever.

Seeing them continue to play is fun. But the NIT is not the goal and it's hard for me to think this is a great season because we're in it.

Simple fact is this team underperformed this year. The evidence of the past 3 games makes that painfully clear too.

Was last night a record for consecutive ft's?

As far as the wasted opportunities go, the disappointment is widespread. But I have enjoyed the NIT run. I'm excited about the real WSU's chances of winning. ANd I will celebrate that championship. The team, the crowd & this community has made the most of the remaining opportunity & are all better for it.

The last three games are pain free for me. I'll enjoy the moment.

No one can argue that it was not disappointing we missed the Big Dance. It is also pretty evident that we had our chances to make that happen and we failed with just about every big opportunity. But we can't really do anything about that at this point.

But I think we have seen some pretty nice character revealed with this team with the way they have responded in the NCAA and it's not like we have dispatched bad teams to make it to New York, although not sure how interested Nebraska was in the proceedings.

We did not see inside the locker room after the loss to Indiana State in St. Louis but I can just imagine it was a very somber and gut-wrenching time for 3G and the guys. We know it was for us fans. Now contrast that with the post-game joy we witnessed last night and, at the very least, this run to MSG has provided some healing waters to 3G, the players and the fans and it has been more than well-worth it. Not to mention the side benefit of getting a lot of additional practice time and game time against quality opponents which can't hurt our development for next year.

Perhaps we can re-visit the question of what kind of season it has been if we win in New York. I would guess at this point we are by far the longest shot of the remaining four teams to win this thing. Alabama and Colorado are #1 seeds, Washington State is a #2 seed and the Shockers were a #4 seed.

You need to change that to since about 1978. That is the year they started the Valley post season tournament. There were Shocker teams before then that finished the season with a win.

When the level of competition is low, the wins should be high. This season has been a very good year, but many of those stats are extremely relative. Has Bradley ever been as bad as they were this year?

My intent is not to be a party-pooper, just realistic. That said, I agree with those who want to celebrate this year and enjoy the ride. Just trying to keep it in perspective.

                            Not a 1st, but it's been awhile:

Wichita State has become the first MVC team to reach the NIT semifinals since 1982
