With all the talk, me included, about the coaching quality of HCGM over the course of the year, let me pose this question...

Rank the top-5 coaches in the Valley. I know many are down on Marshall, but consider all that a coach brings to the table; recruiting, preperation, game coaching, late game strategy, etc...

    Here is mine:

    1. Ben Jacobson - Try doing what he has done in Cedar Falls, America.
    2. Greg Lansing - It would have been too easy to put him at 1...finish in the top 3 next year and we'll see.
    3. Cuonzo Martin - Would have been higher if he would have won the "big one," but has done a nice job in Hillbilly-ville
    4. Jim Les - Just kidding!!!
    4. Gregg Marshall - A solid, not great, recruiter, high energy, but question some in-game philosophies and decisions.
    5. Greg McDermott - A proven coach in this league, appeared in 3 straight NCAA's with UNI in mid-2000's.

    Honorable Mention:

Marty Simmons - If he gets just a bit more talent, could pull an Indiana St.

    1. Greg Lansing - Hasn't shown me he should be anywhere else.
    2. Ben Jacobson - If O'Rear hadn't went down I wouldn't have been surprised to see them in the dance. Not to mention the fact that he recruited a 1st team all MVC, and FOY/NOY player.
    3. Cuonzo Martin - Not entirely sure on this guy yet, if he doesn't bolt this offseason I think I'll have a better picture next season.
    4. Marty Simmons, I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn Evansville (freaking EVANSVILLE) into a consistent Top 5 MVC finisher.
    5. Greg McDermott, he was good enough at UNI to get a BCS job. Most of CU's success this year was from stealing his son from UNI. Time will tell.

The problem with a question like this is that we don't watch the other teams as closely as our own. Do you think fans from other teams would be as critical of Gregg as some on SN are? I seriously doubt it. How many have watched an entire Indiana State game outside of when they played us? Yet because of what happened everyone will jump on the Lansing bandwagon.

We have scrutinized almost every decision Gregg has made this year. I have to admit there have been some I've questioned which is not unusual. Would my stratagies worked any better? I'll always think so but we'll never know.

I think the timing of this question will show negative results for Gregg. However, the decisions will be made based on volumes of discussions and opinions about Gregg and a 25 character Tweet on the others. Maybe not the best of comparisons. I guess it's just all opinion anyway.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Isn't just about everything on a fanboard opinion? Just something else to talk about and get the pulse of the community on.

Here is the 64,000 dollar question...who is the CEO and biggest voice of SN KIA? Now that would be an interesting thread.

SHOCKMVC's 4th best MVC coach, even with a disappointing year, will remain a fan favorite to get the North Carolina State job if Sidney Lowe is fired. Somebody is way of on their coaching evaluations.

I have no idea how to really rank these coaches.

I agree with wusphlash, I spend a lot more time thinking about our coach than the rest.

I will say this, if it's about the coaches and not the team.
Marshall beat Jacobsen on his home court bad.

Lansing is not a genius, basically he just got lucky with Odum who turned out to be a darn good PG.

So with that logic, in 2007 Leonard Hamilton was considered a better coach than Coach K with your formula because his Florida State team beat Duke at Cameron Indoor.

I didn't say Jacobson was better than Marshall, you did.

I NEVER SAID Hamilton was better than coach K either.

I like our coach and his style of play alot. So do fans of a few other schools. If I was a fan of UNI I would probably like Ben more. I have no idea who the better coach is. I don’t get to see enough nor do I know enough.
