24-8 and 14-4 in conference games doesn't constitute a coaching change no matter how disappointed about not making the dance we are. Let's get a grip!

I expect changes to come, but not in the coaching staff folks--or at least not in the head coach. People don't realize sometimes how detrimental a change would be right now to the program. Coaching changes aren't usually smooth in all aspects, and I would bet that it would put us back a year or 2 if we did.

HCGM deserves the chance to fix the problems and challenges. He's more than earned that chance folks.

That doesn't mean people don't have a right to complain, be disappointed or criticize, but firing the head coach is just stupid at this point.

I think there is 0% chance he will be fired and I don't want him fired.

Unfortunately I think there is a high probability that he will leave. I don't want that to happen, but I feel pretty powerless to stop it.

I think there is a chance he may wait until after next season to really pursue leaving, but I think if he gets an offer this year he is not going to turn it down.

                Very solid.
                Bingo!

Could not have been said better. If rjl keeps this up, I might consider some of his left leaning logic.

Hold on here. Did I actually type that?

Well, let's not go that far, but his post is dead on. 8)

I would have expected Marshall to have learned in his previous 9 seasons with Winthrop, and previous years. He was a seasoned coach when he came here, and I expect him to be able to cure most teams problems during the season. A seasoned coach should not be making 'rookie' mistakes with his team, and I am not saying that Marshall did.

                          • I watched Marshall get outcoached in a couple of games this year. I came to the realization that Marshall might not be the best coach in the Valley TODAY.

Marshall is facing a different level of coaching than he saw at Winthrop. I think that caught him a couple of times this year. I don't think it's dis-loyal to mention that. I don't think it's a reason to hire another coach. It's acknowledgement by a fan that Marshall isn't perfect.

I think Marshall's experience will enable him to evaluate film and situations where he may not have made the best decisions and figure out how to correct that in the future.

                            • Marshall certainly isn't perfect and I am glad he is our coach and would like him to be in the future. I do have a concern, as Aargh alluded to, about reviewing decisions he made that he would change if he had to do them over.

I think he made a grave error at the end of the VCU game. Not pressuring #12 94 feet was a critical error. During the next Monday's coaches show he supported his decision to not put pressure on #12 until midcourt with 4.9 seconds. He is sometimes too hard-headed in critical game-deciding situations. He has to tighten these things up.

                              • He put a double team on a man they didn't want to get the ball in the next similar situation with Creighton. Since they got a shot off he took a little flank for not guarding the in-bound passer.
