I do not criticize Marshall's recruiting; imagine if we have the soph Murry in 2010-11 rather than the junior Murry. The players have potential but they have regressed (Murry, Williams?) or not improved a great deal.
2010-11 (39.0% shooting; 28.8% from 3)
23 Murry, Toure'...... 32-28 834 26.1 89-228 .390 23-80 .288 92-115 .800 36 115 151 4.7 50 0 107 87 9 37 293 9.2
2009-10 (42.4% shooting; 33.1% from 3)
23 Murry, Toure' 35 35 1106 31.6 142 335 .424 42 127 .331 92 130 .708 37 138 175 5.0 62 1 109 74 9 49 418 11.9
The frustrating thing is that this team should have done much better. External experts picked WSU as an at-large team and WSU was getting Top 25 votes. What group is responsible for improving the players? The coaching staff!!
Who here wants WSU to be in the NIT this year? Who had this as their goal in August?
Originally posted by shockerfanmasCoach Marshall won't be going anywhere, unless he leaves to go to a different program, which most likely will happen sometime down the road.
Why are we wanting to fire a coach who took us to the finals of the MVC tournament, something that hasn't been done in a long time.
We WILL be playing postseason basketball, most likely in the NIT. Would some of you rather have the days of Randy Smithson again, where we barely could get 10 wins a season, and couldn't stay out of the play-in round? I will take a home, or hell, even a road game in the NIT, CBI, or CIT, as opposed to staying home and watching March Madness anyday. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

You really can't count the first one, since all he had time to do is grab what was available. His third recruiting class has yet to arrive. Turgeon's last recruiting class blew up.
Turgeon went to three consecutive NIT's before he made it to the NCAA tourney.Somebody mentioned how much better off the program was when Marshall took over than when Turgeon came in. I question the validity of that idea.
I think back to when K-State dumped a semi-successful Dana Altman. How long did it take them to recover from that?
I can remember back to not so long ago when the mood on this message board was just please let us be competitive. Now its fire the coach?
I believe Marshall said at one pont he preferred an 8 man rotation. I woud not be surprised to see him revert to that next year. I cringed when he brought back the same starting lineup for the second half. With the exception of Durley those guys generated no offense at all. As for Kyles jacking up bad shots, I'll take that VS any of the threes put up by the rest of the team.
And what is this about he has only had two recruiting classes not counting the first year. He has had three additional recruiting classes not counting his first year and the fourth is already recruited with possibly one or more additions. He came on board in mid 2007/2008 which we will not count. Then there was 2008/2009; 2009/2010; and 2010/2011; and his new incoming class of 2011/2012.
And let's look at the magical number of winning more than 20 games. Four were crips and at least 10 were against very weak conference teams. Just who have we beaten this year that was even above average?
I, for one, am still willing to give him a chance for one and possibly two more years. But, I certainly would not be willing to extend his contract any further until we start seeing some meaningful earning a birth in the NCAA.

Isn't it amazing that a coach that some don't think can X and O, can't recruit and can't judge talent is mentioned on so many other boards when job openings occur. Obviously they aren't paying attention to our first hand analysis. Maybe SN should start a headhunting service.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Look I think Marshall is an ok coach, I am just not sure he is a good enough at coaching half court offense in order to really succeed to the level we would like in the Valley. His style will work, I am just starting to wonder if it will work in the Valley. Too much of the Valley likes to make it a low possession, slow it down kind of game. Time will tell. I definately wouldn't fire the guy after this year, but it will be interesting to see what happens. I'm not quite as confident as I once was."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

We've been on ESPN channels enough for true basketball junkies to have seen us and Gregg several times. Many in the Southeast surely know him from his reputation from Withrop. Just saying that after 250 wins, he's not some mystery coach that had a lightning in a bottle season.
After four seasons, two of which were entirely rebuilding, some here are ready to unload him. Are we of such basketball stature that we can afford that luxury because of one season of unfulfilled promise? We are not.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

I'll be honest though, if we don't progress over the next couple of years then I won't be upset if we look for other options."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

For the SN veterans, how long did the negativity last after the Vanderbilt debacle, or the 2007 meltdown, or the disasters with Stanford and Nevada?Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

I don't want Marshall fired but I don't think we have to worry about that.
MARSHALL WILL LEAVE probably very soon because the Valley has become a one bid conference.
I bet he is trying his best right now to get into a multi-bid conference. That is what he thought he was getting by going to WSU.
Now that the Valley has clearly cemented itself as a one bid conference there is no reason for Marshall to hang around here any longer.
