  • DK will be fine. Lets not create needless controversy or negative speculation about a player who, although hasn't had great games lately, has been a huge part of our success this year and I expect him to be key before it is all over.

I watched him pretty closely on D at several points in the first half, and he was doing a stellar job dealing with all the screens they were throwing at our guards and staying in front of his man. With the way teams have dribbled past us during some games this year, it's good to see that our guards (including DK) dealt so well with that last night. Not that we wouldn't like to see the offense from him that we saw early on, but he had a good game last night, I thought (good D and didn't hurt us with forced 3-point shots). Plenty of other people were filling up the basket, and he didn't hunt his shot.

Because he was only in for 6 minutes.

          • David is being true to his nature as far as shooting goes, he's a streak player. There have been times that he's pumped up a lot of shots. There have also been significant stretches where he hasn't shot the ball at all. We tend to, understandably, remember the missed threes, especially considering his hot start.

Quite frankly, I think he has totally lost conficence in his shot. I say this not only because of the threes but because he has also missed at least 4 bunnies over the last several games. Shots he probably should have thrown down with authority. I want him to come out and take his shots. I also want him to realize when they're not falling and adjust his game accordingly. Missed threes should not affect one's ability to make lay ups. Hopefully Gregg has a little Sigmund Freud in him.

David still has a lot to offer this team as far as floor play. His athleticism leads to a lot of positives in other areas.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

That has the to be the worst comparison since our esteemed commander in chief said he thought he had similar qualities to Ronald Reagan.

Rags is solid in the classroom, a serious student of the game, and lacking in ego maniacal tendencies.

Don't think the spring thaw has found its way to the cranial matter in Cedar Flop yet.
It's all about perception. Right now, when Joe gets a foul called on him, more time than not, he screws his face up and shakes his head. If you are not intimately acquainted with him, you are going to assume he is a prima donna that thinks he never does anything wrong, ergo you cannot possibly call a foul on him. I like Joe, but I can see where other fan bases could perceive him as a P'Allen type. Not flattering to be compared to.

              • Yeah because Joe Ragland is a lazy selfish basketball player that constantly had quarrels with his teamates and coaching staff. He's also holds the record for field goal accuracy at Wichita State.

Seriously comparing Joe Ragland to P'Allen Stinnett is apples/oranges.
Its baseless and a horrible comparison. If you wanted to compare his "whining" to another player it wasnt any different than what Jay Koch was doing all night. Complete with "**** that" and "Thats Bullshit" yeah wasnt to hard to read in HD.

I understand what you're saying about perception. But if the UNI fans had looked closer and more objectively, they would notice it's not what it seems at first glance.

Joe, after screwing up his face in a "did they really just call that?!" look, will often look back at our coach knowing he screwed up. everytime. Looks at the bench and then pats his chest, acknowledging that it was his bad. he does this when the team huddles before the opposing player shoots the free throws as well. he tells his teammates "my bad, dumb foul"

also, to help the perception, Joe talked with the ref for a while, never with an attitude. which is key. he explained his side and listened to the refs point of view and nodded his acknowledgement and a slap on the rear.

UNI fans at the game may not have noticed his pat on the chest acceptance of the foul, but it was evident on TV and, as a WSU fan, I see it all the time.

someone else mentioned that it's less of a complaint than just a constant effort to never let the team down. kinda like a perfectionist.
                      first he feels disbelief.
                      then guilt.
                      then acceptance.

and you can watch this process through his body language.

                      Hatch on the other hand....

Got some bad body language there.
It has gotten worse as the season wears on.

                      the reason for that:

He feels like the refs are out to get him. he feels like he gets called for tacky fouls way more than any other player.

also, he carries the anger of other games bad calls with him to the next game. So when he gets one bad foul, in his mentality its the 10th bad foul. as they just continue to build.

Confusing independent variables as dependent ones.

While I do feel bad for him about some of the calls he gets, I wish he'd stop the antics!

                      • Joe and Grahm both need to work on walking away. Referees have memories. Right or wrong you can't be too demonstrative. It will come back to haunt you.

I was not the one that compared Joe to P'Allen. I would hope we would NEVER have cause to compare any Shocker player to P'Punk. But I can't fault the UNI fans either. They don't see Joe on an every game basis the way we do. They will only see his first reaction (which is his "Who, me?" face) and very seldom will they continue to watch to see what else he might do. All I'm saying is if he doesn't want misconceptions with regard to his facial expressions after a foul, he shouldn't be making those faces in the first place. Come on now, he's not a 5 year old.

Get off my back. I'm not entitled to an opinion? I was not comparing JR to P'Allen -- not even close. All I said was that it is not inconceivable to me that another fan base would only see what they wanted to see, which was Joe's reaction to the called foul. He could avoid it all by emulating Durley when he is called for a foul. You rarely see Durley give much of a reaction because he is aware that it is useless (and often times detrimental) to argue with a ref.
