We need guys with fire. Him, Gabe, and to a lesser extent JT and Stutz seem to have the most voice on this team. They bring energy and show leadership qualities. We need emotion to fuel us toward the final stretch.

    • I thought DK looked awfully disinterested at the end too. DK and DW have talent but need to listen to be a part of the game. They need to realize if they're not having the best of games to still be apart of the team in other ways, even if they're seeing bench time.

We don't need any cancers on the team during the final stretch.

DK, DW and GS gave Gregg no choice last night. The first five would build a lead only to see it disappear while on the bench for a rest. They would rebuild the lead only to see it disappear again. I don't look at the bench time as punishment for this trio. Last night it was very clear that our best chance for success was with them as assistant coaches. I won't be at all surprised if, in a later game, we are singing their praises. That's the pattern with this group.

          • The situation with Demetric is stupid. I think there are two incredibly stubborn individuals in that dynamic. The result is that we are less effective. You can't take the same approach with every player. I really hope Williams and coach get it figured it out.

Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if Demetric left if the dynamic doesn't change before the end of the season. I would be seriously disappointed.

I missed last night's game due to a social obligation. My earlier posts about Toure' being settled in at point guard are turning out to be less than prophetic.

I wouldn't be surprised either. However, DK's tribulations are concerning. He has gone from averaging 13.2 ppg in the first 13 games to 7.1 in the last 13, averaging only 4.7 ppg in 9 of those contests. When his 3 pt shot left, so did his game. SHOXMVC's plea for a more rounded game from DK was probably spot on.

GS simply cannot defend a small, quicker frontliner. Most of the time, he can be effective because he will be matched up against a true 5. I hope he does what he can to address this in the off season as he will be called upon to play and take on all comers next year.

I still think DWill is a better 2 at this time. Hopefully, he understands that when HCGM empties the bench and he's in with them, that HCGM is simply giving him more playing time and experience at running the show and it's not a slam on his skills or importance to this team.

You say Joe's "emotion" is good and for the most part I agree. I really wish though that he (and Hatch) would take a page out of Durley's book when it comes to facial expressions when called for a foul. You rarely see a reaction from Durley when he is called for a foul. You can't argue with the ref so why piss him off and make him look at you all the closer the rest of the game. The "disbelief" look on both JR and GH are getting very old and tiresome, and make them appear like whiners. I have always been a huge fan of Hatch (even his first year when most posters on SN were down on him), but I don't like his "both hands on the sides of his head, mouth open, eyes wide with disbelief" look he gives.
Im not going to say you're wrong, but you're not right neither. Yeah Graham has that whole Alfred E Newman thing going on after each call. Last night it was really deserved but he does it every game. Joe seemed just really genuinely pissed off at committing a foul. Not so much as he got called for some BS but the fact that I think he tends to be a perfectionist.

Big difference in the reactions in regards to Hatch and Ragland.

With that said i teach my son to hold his emotions in sports. Wait until you get into the car and you can yell scream cuss whatever but no on the field. But I get tired of this "you cant show any emotion". We need more players to show some fire. To yell and scream. To pound their chest. Everybody in Wichita has a hard on for the past with players like X, AC and Cliff but if they played for anyone other than us they wouldnt be any more than pathetic thugs.

Sorry kind of trailing off a bit.

                  • UNI fans apparently don't like Ragland's emotion. They just called him our version of P'Allen.

                      • For DK to get back into a groove he's gotta get more playing time, however we don't have any "easy" games left where a coach might utilize a player more than normal to get him back into a groove.

                        • DK also plays better in an up tempo game. The more we press and run, the better he plays.

The more WSU let's the opponent run the 35 second clock down to zero without any pressure the worse he plays, IMO. That's my take.

That has the to be the worst comparison since our esteemed commander in chief said he thought he had similar qualities to Ronald Reagan.

Rags is solid in the classroom, a serious student of the game, and lacking in ego maniacal tendencies.

Don't think the spring thaw has found its way to the cranial matter in Cedar Flop yet.

                            • Yes indeed, these refs did not buy all of that flopping that was rewarded here at 21st and Hillside. We have not heard the end of DK or Dwill this Season. DK had a hot streak versus Tulsa that would come in handy as we march ahead, not to mention that when his injury hit late last Season, it hurt us as a team. DK is solid on defense and Toure' is playing solid as of late. Between the 2 of them, we are way cool at the 2 position.

Dwill is still young and his turn and time will come. Patience is a virtue, but many of us want things to be ideal right now. As to who will come and who if any will go, could be undetermined until this Season comes to an end. Winning and success heals many woes and emotional wounds. If the story has an ugly ending, then yikes. Also, this Coaching Staff will be point blank honest to any players that are not on the right Shocker team oriented path.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

He's had 15 games to get back into the "groove," which have resulted in 33% from the field & 27% from 3. He doesn't deserve any preferential treatment from HCGM. He can get out of the doghouse just like any other player, by taking advantage of the playing time given to him. Whether it's 6 minutes or 20 minutes. You get what you earn. It starts by putting in the quality work in practice. When the coaching staff feels DK or any other player for that matter has put in the work and earned the game time then we will see him play.

He is a great talent and I have no doubt he will figure it out with the help of the coaching staff and teammates. I think the team misses his defense, rebounding and excitement in the open floor, but make no mistake about it, he has been a LIABILITY in the halfcourt.

I am the biggest fan of the potential DK has. We have not a better basketball athlete on the team IMO. When he decides to not be just a 3-point specialist and use his talent and ability, then this team will soar to much greater heights. COME ON DAVID...YOU CAN DO THIS...
