  • JACK HARTMAN OR JERRY TARKANIAN

There are many different kinds of coaches out there playing all kinds of styles and using a variety of strategies. There are no right answers to these questions. Coaches of all types have experience both success and failure. What would be your preference?

    1) Do you want the pure X and O coach that has total control of every situation or do you want a coach that gives players a certain amount of freedom and expects them to make good decisions understanding that won‘t always happen?

    2) Do you want a coach that’s going to play a higher pressure, higher risk defense or one who prefers the softer, sagging, make the other team work defense?

    3) Do you want a coach that’s going to recruit for the immediate future using transfers and jucos to address obvious holes or do you want a coach who predominantly recruits high schoolers betting on long term stability and development?

    4) Do you want a coach that typically scores big and wins big with a few close losses or do you want a coach that plays a slower type of ball resulting in tighter scores but has a stellar record in close games?

    5) Do you want a coach who wears his emotions on his sleeve occasionally offending someone or one who is more staid and politically correct when addressing players, fans and media?

    6) Do you want a coach with aspirations to continually improve his situation or a coach that’s looking more for stability and comfort at whatever level that might be?

I don't have a problem with that. I prefer the up tempo, score a lot of points, pressure defense, don't wait until tomorrow, say what you mean kind of guy.

I want Billy Tubbs high octane offense and full court pressure. A team that tried to score 100 points on every opponent they played.

Interesting name. I've wondered if Gregg could have the same effect on the MVC that Billy had on the B8 as far as evolving to a more up tempo conference.

He'll have to actually run and trap more in conference to ever have that kind of sway.

I'll take Pete Bell. Anyone that can recruit like that has got to be a winner.

I would take Don Laswell over all of them.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

                        One-nut Don Laswell?

Did you have any children that lived?

+1, even though I have issues with his game management in two of our five losses. UCONN received home cooking, SDSU was just better than us, and we didn't play that badly against UNI, who shot out of their minds.

The real question is: Does our coach want to keep what he has?

One-nut? I really feel bad now because when Shirley and I were in Jr High coach Laswell would line up and play bomb bardament with the gym class. I know what your thinking, a grown man playing this game with under inflated volley balls against kids. During one of these encounters he ran up to the line and whizzed it at some guys standing in the back to avoid getting killed by him, I was at an angle when he finished his follow through and hit him square in the grapes, he dropped like a rock and after awhile slowly went to the gym office not to be seen the rest of the class period. So if the former is true then I may have been the one responsible.
