  • Glass half full...

I think that I'm almost over the hangover that was SIU on Tuesday night. After enduring the lows of Scott Thompson, Mike Cohen and no success in Omaha my shocks are still in first place in the conference and have as good a chance as anyone of becoming the conference champions.

None of our players have been hauled in by the authories this year for violating the law or that sort of thing. They have 20 wins for the second year in a row and are guaranteed to have a winning season no matter what happens the rest of the way. The Shocks are getting more and more press and have received votes in the AP poll nearly every week this season. They have a fantastic chance at winning the tournament in St. Louis for the second straight year and won't be playing in the play in game which for many years I had been accustomed to attending.

Our team has been successful inspite what I view as our weak but improving conference affiliation and while we may not receive an at large invite to the BCS tournament, it doesn't mean that we aren't deserving of one or that we can't give any team in the country all they want and more on any given night.

Sure, I'm disappointed with the performance from Tuesday but this is sports and Utah State lost last night to Idaho or somebody like that and Villanova lost to Rutgers so nobody is perfect. Things could be a lot worse then they are and I still have nightmares about those days. As much as I'll miss watching Durley posting up...(A thing of beauty) or Hatch leaving skin on the court or Blair just humiliating people with his cat like reflexes, there's still a lot of basketball left to play this season...thank God. And the cupboard isn't exactly bare for next season, we may not be the favorites but we won't be far from the top in a conference that will be much improved.

    Go Shocks!

Still some hope for a great finish to this season. Tuesday was a big bump in the road, but who knows what will come of that. Would we take that loss for an MVC title and a first round victory in the NCAA? You bet.

Great post... brighter days lay ahead.

Come on Shox! Let's do this! Continue being road warriors and we come out on top!

Great post. It's time to put the past behind us and make the most of the future.

The team can't dwell on things like we can here. Hopefully they shredded the video yesterday to learn what could be learned, had one of THOSE practices where every little thing gets nitpicked, stared at themselves in the mirror for a good long while, and are ready to come out with some p and vinegar the rest of the way. A little chip on the shoulder attitude wouldn't hurt right now. It is proving time.

I didn't want to check the site the last couple of days, for obvious reasons. I'm surprised and pleased to see this at the top of the thread list. Not pumping sunshine or leeching joy, just a measured response to a painful game. I don't know what to expect from here on out but I'm going to enjoy whatever happens. Go Shox.

Now I know how a KU fan feels after the Hawks meet an MVC team in the NCAA's.

Ah, that makes me feel better.

There are fans of 335 other D1 teams that don't give a hoot about our failure Tuesday night. It's only because we are so passionate about our team that the air was completely sucked out of our sails. We are certainly not exclusive in that club.

However, we should be more concerned about the sails of the team. There are five seniors on this team that have to be wondering if they've lost a great opportunity to make their mark on this program. Hopefully they understand that opportunities are still there and they are still in control of their own destiny.

As far as we critical fans, and I'm one of them, remember what JFK said, "Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan".

Are we really in first place? With MSU having the tie-breaker with the head-to-head match up with us, would they get the conference regular season championship if it were to end today, or does the Valley make a distinction when it comes to scenarios like this and give co-champ recognition?

I was trying to remember who we had as coaches prior to MT, but now know that I forgot their names for a reason.

We know that anyone can win it all, but we do need to get an invitation to the dance if we want to have a shot at the crown. Right now, that likely comes down to winning in STL, which we can do. We are still the best road team in the Valley and still have the best chance of winning in STL.

I don't think the glass is half-full, but I believe that it was designed with twice as much capacity as was needed.

There is a co-championship if tied.

Tie-breakers are for MVC tourney seeding only.

If WSU and MSU were co-champions and the series was split (we'd have to win in Springfield) WSU has the tie-breaker, which is OOC SoS.
