I think that I'm almost over the hangover that was SIU on Tuesday night. After enduring the lows of Scott Thompson, Mike Cohen and no success in Omaha my shocks are still in first place in the conference and have as good a chance as anyone of becoming the conference champions.
None of our players have been hauled in by the authories this year for violating the law or that sort of thing. They have 20 wins for the second year in a row and are guaranteed to have a winning season no matter what happens the rest of the way. The Shocks are getting more and more press and have received votes in the AP poll nearly every week this season. They have a fantastic chance at winning the tournament in St. Louis for the second straight year and won't be playing in the play in game which for many years I had been accustomed to attending.
Our team has been successful inspite what I view as our weak but improving conference affiliation and while we may not receive an at large invite to the BCS tournament, it doesn't mean that we aren't deserving of one or that we can't give any team in the country all they want and more on any given night.
Sure, I'm disappointed with the performance from Tuesday but this is sports and Utah State lost last night to Idaho or somebody like that and Villanova lost to Rutgers so nobody is perfect. Things could be a lot worse then they are and I still have nightmares about those days. As much as I'll miss watching Durley posting up...(A thing of beauty) or Hatch leaving skin on the court or Blair just humiliating people with his cat like reflexes, there's still a lot of basketball left to play this season...thank God. And the cupboard isn't exactly bare for next season, we may not be the favorites but we won't be far from the top in a conference that will be much improved.
Go Shocks!
