There's a 4 page thread about Marshall lobbying for the Tennessee job on MVCfans, created on February 5th.

Well if its on a message board, it must be true!

I mentioned that Marshall's was being discussed on a couple of fan boards and one was North Carolina State. The last time I checked it was just fan board talk about who they would like. There was no mention of anything actually happening.

It doesn't even have to be on a message board to be true. It only has to be on the Internet. Everything is true for some people if they read it online.

First of all, if he's going to make a jump to BCS, this would have been the year to do it. Not sure now. Next year we could easily take a small step back.

What if I heard it from my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend who heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who said it?

It didn't just surface. It has been out there. It was mainly being ignored when Mat P. surfaced the rumor. It has gotten more legs when the equivalent to Sullentrop at the Omaha paper discussed when addressing the question of what coaches might leave the MVC.

Why it is being talked about on Shockernet now is is because the discussion has started on whether Marshall is recruiting for the "wham bam thank you ma'am" and run or recruiting to build a long term program.

Where? Show me who has said that?

Just a little fyi, after this year we lose a lot of key players. This will be our last serious chance to go to the NCAA's for a couple years IMO.

My days following Coach Fogler taught me to "rate" shot selection. Coach Fogler would routinely halt play, and ask someone to rate the shot they just took on a scale from 1 to 5. You had to take into account things like where you were in the possession, what was your strength, did you shoot it in rhythm, was there someone more open etc etc.

This team had a little habit of taking shots I would rate 2 or 3 at best. The last 2 games were chock full of 4s and 5s.

Of the 53 shots we took last night, I bet there weren't five 5s. I'll watch the replay sometime, but that is on the coaches. I understand players play, and everyone gets to wear some of this debacle, but there was an article just yesterday on letting shooters shoot and when I read the article I said to myself "You know, this shows on the court as we have taken an increasing amount of what I would call bad shots as the year goes on...some of those go in (no no no no good shot) but they aren't helping the long term product.

Bottom line, we've been taking an increasing number of out of synch, off balance, forced, quick, out of position, not at our strength and without confidence shots lately, while probably making more than our fair share and last night I guess the bad shots got even.

I saw it coming (not the loss to SIU but the offensive disaster) and anyone worth their salt could see it as well.
                    Spot on. Excellent analysis.

To go on with ShockTalk's point, have we won one game that we weren't supposed to win this year? How many games have we lost that we shouldn't have lost or have had no business in losing to? If the second answer is higher than the first, then we have serious issues and are greatly underachieving.

Exactly right. We lose a lot down low and need immediate help and impact players to fill big shoes in order to maintain our current level. EO still has a long, long way to go. I doubt we see GS pulling a Paul Miller during his senior season. Unless he gains another 15 - 20 lbs of muscle and more importantly, his quickness suddenly improves 200 percent then expect a marginal improvement next season at best. We got a recruit with health/heart concerns that poses a huge what if as well.

Ya, not that we will not have talented players, but their skills overlap.

IMO next year's team will either need to be over achievers or another significant player needs to be added.

                            Really

What this team needs is a leader!

Nobody wants the ball at the end of the game and we continue to ignore our strengths.

We do not dictate tempo in our house and we dont take advantage of our opponents weaknesses.

These are our 3 biggest problems.
Don't let the fear of striking out - keep you from playing the game!

This was an amazingly frustrating and difficult loss to accept. However, I'm not worried. I still think the Shox win the MoVal regular season and also win the MoVal tournament.

This team has the leadership and experience where they shouldn't need a wake-up call, but let's face it~ some teams do better when their backs are against the wall.
