  • Another failed coaching adjustment.....

    Lets see:

    SIU has one PG on their roster;

    We cant score on our half court sets from mid first half on;

    Every time we did press and trap hard, they turned it over;

    We saw what happened the second half in Carbondale;

    We supposedly have the best depth in the league;

    ....and yet we let them get comfortably into their offense time and time again.

    Somebody please explain. There are numerous ways to trap and press, not just off of made baskets, so don't use that as an excuse.

    You can make all the adjustments you want, but if your team shoots 8% in the 2nd half they won't matter.

    Also, depth doesn't matter in the Valley. Nobody plays an uptemp style offense so nobody gets that tired. All you need is 7 guys and you're golden.

        This loss has little to do with coaching, this loss is on the players. They lack the mental disposition of a champion. They have no killer instinct and their play is very lackluster at times.

        It is quite obvious they were going through the motions tonight. They see the 8th place team come into the Koch who just had three players suspended and they think this game is going to be a walk in the park. Coaching has nothing to do with that. It is responsible for the players to execute the plays GM calls. 15 turnovers to this crap ass team is inexcusable.

        With UNI tanking at the moment, even IF we do win at their place, their RPI will not help us as much as we liked to see. It is evident that it is now St. Louis or bust. The experts will now point out this horrible loss and no quality wins. Please Sunshine Pumpers, give it up with any hope of making an at-large, winning the valley.

          Most of the team didn't hussle the whole night, they didn't seem focused, weren't ready to play and thought they could walk on the floor and just win. 90% tonight was on coaching. Coach didn't have these kids ready.

            You would think that with Fay in early foul trouble we would go after him in the post.

            That's on coaching.

              I agree this team is mentally weak...

                Turnovers create offense when your normal offense isn't working. It didn't take a genius to figure that out.

                You force the tempo when you have the depth.

                ...and KC, mental disposition of the players and lack of killer instinct has everything to do with coaching. It's obvious from that statement you haven't even coached a T Ball team.

                    B.S. it's coaching. GM isn't out there playing basketball! Did GM turn the ball over 15 times? Did GM miss 9 layups? Give me a freakin' break. If GM has to kick the players in the arse with the season 75 percent over with then this team has issues. Everyone preaches how EXPERIENCED this team is and how it will pay dividends. Well fellas, this EXPERIENCED team shouldn't need daddy to swat their behinds and yell at them in order to get er' done.

                      Did GM get his boys ready to play basketball? Nope. Even the most experienced teams still need a coach and some direction. Tonight they weren't prepared.

                          You can't totally exonerate the coaching, the own some responsibility. However, what I saw was a team that came out thinking they were going to have a walk over. They got a ten point lead and instead of putting SIU out of their misery they became selfish, one on one players. Lay ups missed, no help on defense, the bulk of this loss is on the players. There is another thread on this forum titled "Team of Lost Opportunities". They couldn't have exemplified that more than they did tonight.
                          Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

                            I agree. This team doesn't handle adversity very well.

                            Did anybody get the feeling that Murray really didn't want the ball in his hand at the end. Kind of Ironic when you think how he started his Shocker career as a Freshman hitting clutch shots.

                            I do think that Marshall did a bad job coaching. He really never made any adjustments that I could see. Why not go to some zone to stop the guard drives?

                              Oh my goodness! It cracks me up how anyone would think GM was the major reason we lost this game. Weren't we the 27th ranked team in the nation playing against a horrible and depleted SIU program - AT HOME. Their players can't carry our team's jocks, yet the players who are responsible for passing, dribbling, running, jumping, shooting and defending (not GM) made SIU look like world beaters tonight.

                              Do you honestly think the Shox never entertained the idea of what is at stake for the remainder of the season. Do you mean to tell me that Gabe and JT had no clue that in order to make the NCAA's would be not to have a bad loss on their resume'? Do you mean to tell me that Toure and David never thought that in order to stay in first place in the MVC that they would need a win tonight?

                              Gimme a freakin' break. The Shox know exactly what they need to do, what is at stake and what can potentially happen if they screw it up. So don't go blaming GM that he didn't prepare the team tonight. I am willing to bet dollars to pesos that the halftime speech was animated and full of expletives. I seriously doubt GM was sipping a latte' in the pre-game locker room and telling the boys to start thinking about the NCAA's.

                              The players FAILED and they FAILED the fans.
