Sorry, kai, I don't see what you see on this thread at all. Just who was proclaiming us champs?

I saw a lot of caution. Can't overlook anyone, must continue solid consistent play, "renting" 1st, concern over RPI, and, yes, some happiness over being in 1st and now being able to control our future.

Feel free to back up your claim.

I'm just enjoying where we are right now. We're in a good position--much better than about 1 week ago. Nothing wrong with enjoying, as long as we stay aware of what still lies ahead. I think most fans are.

Enjoying first place and playing well don't have much correlation to earning an at-large birth IMO. There are still gaping holes in our resume that may or may not be addressed before we finish the season. But I can still enjoy the ride.

I think winning the valley regular season title puts us in. there are holes in our resume but being conference champs will take care of alot of those.

I heard if you win the conference tournament, you get an automatic bid to the tourney. Can anyone verify this?

Because that's what is going to happen this year.

                    :)

I'm curious - does anyone else think that MSU might be a "tired" team? We are getting towards the end of the season, they are 2-3 in their last 5 games, and play their starters most of the game.

Yes, they are a tired team. I think Sullentrop showed some stats about their scoring to close out their last three games. In the last 10 minutes they were awful. They are tired mentally and physically. I think the conference race is actually going to come down to UNI and us.

I don't think so. I think they just had a couple of emotional let-downs. It's hard to stay focused for every single game and some teams have less margin for error. They'll be ready for us as will UNI--you can count on that.

MSU is either a tired team or they've become really bad at closing out a game.

MSU has been very ineffective in the last 10 minutes of the last several games. That's certainly differenct from what they were doing earlier in the season.

I think some close games, some emotional games, and a short bench are taking a toll. It's noticeable because many times several teams are playing with short benches. Then all the short bench teams tend to tire as the season progresses and the effect is disguised.

There are a couple of teams this year thaqt play deep benches, and those teams are fresher. It shows - as much as Bears fans try to deny it - it's still true.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

The depth issue may be a little more accentuated in the MVC compared to some conferences. With an 18-game round robin plus a Bracket Buster thrown in there is little time for rest between games once Janaury rolls around.

Not to mention that the MVC tournament is a week earlier than many, thereby compressing more games into fewer days.
