I only say this because this seems like the actions of someone that no longer wanted to be at WSU or that is no longer very committed to baseball as a profession. Interesting to say the least.
He did get 5 future college semesters paid for in the package.
And... he is starting in A ball as opposed to Rookie ball.

Shox27... just looked. You are indeed correct. When I read the Wichita Eagle and saw "A" ball, I thought maybe that was part of Cooper's deal... to start at A ball.

For some reason he was willing to come to a quick and easy agreement on his bonus...Is he planning on a short stay in baseball? Was he in a hurry to get out of Wichita? Something else wrong?

You bring up a point I've always wondered about... of course, we hear about the X year deals when millions in signing bonuses are on the line. How about cases like this? Is it a one year deal?

The annual salary for minor league baseball players is next to nothing.

The one time signing bonus is the big pay off until you make it to the show (which less than 5% of minor league players do).

I thought the Valley final would have been a bad enough taste for him to come back. Guess not.
                Good luck to him.

Sometimes guys just feel like they are ready to make the plunge (even though their chances of making it to the show are not very good).

I have seen guys picked in the lower rounds with virtually no money and they go anyway.

There was one guy in 2000 that went in the later rounds that really surprised me. He had made comments to me about how great it was at WSU and how bad life playing in the minors was and he ended up signing anyway, so you just never know.
