Pitcher Jordan Cooper has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Indians and will not return to Wichita State, according to Shocker pitching coach Brent Kemnitz.

"He's feel like he's ready to go and he wants a new challenge," WSU pitching coach Brent Kemnitz said. "He's ready to go to professional baseball and succeed. I 100 percent agree. I think he'll be in the big leagues someday."

Cooper, a sophomore right-hander from Berryton, went 10-3 with a 2.01 ERA for the Shockers. He was named a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and earned Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year honors.

He was taken in the ninth round by Cleveland in the draft earlier this month.

I hope he was able to get a lot of money out of them. I wish him well, but we all know had bad the odds are of him eventually making it to the show.

I do not find the odds that bad of him reaching the bigs. He would of been drafted higher, but teams were scared of being able to sign him or not.

Yeah. But nobody knew had fast he would sign. I think he has a good chance of reaching the majors.

If you're not confident you're going to make it to the big leagues, then sign and take that money and run.

Why? Do you know something we don't? I'm waiting to see what the investment was in him. That will tell you how much of chance he will get.

WSU had 7 players sign who were draft in the 9th round. 4 maxed out at A-Ball, 2 made AA and one AAA.

But good luck to him regardless. I hope it all works out for him. It is always fun to follow Shockers in MLB.

I hope he does well, but if he makes the show, he will be the first Shocker ever drafted in the ninth round to make it.

Overall even guys taken in the first 2 rounds only have about a 50/50 chance.

Not really an unexpected result. Probably the best thing for him and the fact he signed so quickly indicates he received a decent offer.
