Forgive me for not knowing this, but is the championship game a one and done? I guess I assumed you had to lose twice to be out of the tournament, but I don't see anyone talking about another game, so I must be mistaken.
If it is a one and done, does this game ruin any small chance that the Shockers had for an at large bid?
Everybody writes them off and then they go 20-6 to finish the year and win the league. The committee's going to have a tough decision on their hands. If they do get in, our top 3 starters (when rested) could make things interesting in any regional.
Even if they don't get in, what a way to turn the year around!
My bet is WSU is playing their last game of the year unless some miracle happens.
They have played themselves to the point where they are on the bubble. Now it will be matter of how many teams get a auto-bid that would not ordinarily get one (ISU just took one slot from at-large team).
I could see the Shocker winning a regional and super (as long as their 3 starters pitch complete games) and the team hits and Baez doesn't play second base.
But how bad is the depth of this pitching staff when you only trust 3 guys.

You are simply wrong here, Coop got lit up today too. That strike zone the first 5 innings was about 6inches x 6inches. Went both ways though, ISU was just better at sitting back and waiting for that pitch right down the middle. That ump just didn't budge on that zone.
WSU's bullpen has gotten better the last 20 games or so.
We were in a similar spot in 2006. RPI was comparable (slightly worse actually. I think 61 on Selection Monday), we lost the MVC tournament, etc. That season we did not win the league regular season title, but the conference was also considerably stronger from a power ratings standpoint.
We were able to sneak in as an at-large that year. I think we are slightly stronger this season. However, I still think we are only about a 40% chance candidate.
