That doesn't mean we can't find things to appreciate. This team isn't as talented as some have been, but this group of players has come back from some performances that could have demoralized the team and taken the wind out of their sails for the season. These yound players fought through that and found a way to keep getting better. Fans should be able to appreciate that.

We can be happy for a bunch of kids who went out, struggled to have fun, and still ended up with a winning record. 37-18 is what it says on goshockers, so that's what I use. These kids won twice as many games as they lost. That's going to be a great memory. I know I can be happy for that.

Yeah, yeah, the season could have been better. There's still things we can find to enjoy.

The Shox are in about the top 17% of college baseball teams in a down year. That says some real positives about the WSU program. We can enjoy that.

Life is short enough without looking for things to hate on. Some people just seem to enjoy looking for the bad and are so busy doing that, that they don't have any time left to look for good thigs. I just think that group is a bunch of sick puppies.

Now, if we had had a losing year, I can see some complaining, but if a .667 W/L % in a down year isn't good enough - move to Austin. You might like the team in that town a little better. I doubt it.
    nice speech

Shox still at 34 d1 wins and need to win mvc tourney. Don't see what the big deal is to live in reality.

You must be blind who is following a blind man. We have won 34 games playing the 115th ranked strength of schedule. We play in the 15th toughest conference in the nation that will only supply 1 team in the NCAA's and we are 15-8 against teams in the RPI 101-200. The 3 wins against the non-D1 teams dn't count and we have won 9 games against teams with RPIs over 200 which really is sad.

I will say we are better than last year and if we have to play 10 games against teams with 200+ RPIs and non-D1 teams, it's better to win than to lose.

Aargh is grabbing up a troop of sunshine pumpers, now that we have found some good baseball. Strangely though how he was absent during the down times this year.

How can you call this a successful season when it will be mandatory to win the Valley tournament to make a regional?

It's definitely better than 09 but our season's success will be judged based on the performances of next week.

To say it's been successful at this point is being truly ignorant.
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

Ok, KC we have had an unsuccessful season, we are in a sorry conference and played a crap schedule; and you can have your standards as high as you want (deluding yourself that your so high and mighty and elite) but we have the team that we have good or bad and we may NEVER get back to your dreamy elusive status THAT IS THE REALITY. The U is never going to be George Steinbrenner and fire everyone and buy players etc. to reach your happy loft. So you can just grace us with your bummer attitude indefinitely or we can just be fans and HOPE we do the best we can do. For the time being, I, and I bet just a couple others would like to feel as good as we can about the mediocre team that we have. I'm hoping we can still win our conference, the conference tournament, the regional, the super regional, and as much of the next tournament as possible and then look back at the season and AGREE with you, this seaon has really sucked! But the last pitch is still to be thrown. :D :D :D :D :D

Yes 2 more to get to 40 but I would like several more than that...
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

                    40

Nice to get back to another 40 win season. That is 32 out of the last 33 seasons!

But let's not stop there. Let's keep winning!

Sadly, it's not a true 40 win season unless you're counting the Shockers KCAC Conference championship.

If we can win the Valley Tournament we'll be 1 win short...and as KC Shox said, we'll need to go deep into a Super Regional to reach 40. Still trying to figure that one out.

Marty, if this team can play to their ability I have no doubt a 40 win season will result. The lack of playing to potential is the most aggravating part of this season for me; I hope they get all together for the post-season.

                          Go Shocks!

Off topic perhaps but one of our players was a UNI baseball player before UNI dropped its baseball program. I was looking at PantherNation and reading the thread Baseball 1 Year Later made me remember why I dislike the UNI fanbase (but not necessarily individual UNI fans I have met) so much. http://www.panthernation.com/showthread.php?t=32678

                            ************************************************** ************************************************** **

“Baseball just got pushed aside,” said Travis Bennett, a former Cedar Rapids Jefferson prep who transferred to traditional college baseball powerhouse Wichita State for his senior year.

Arp, Taliaferro and Bennett said they were appalled when they learned the school had raised $800,000 for the installation of new turf in the UNI-Dome. The Black Hawk Gaming Association donated $500,000 of that money.

They became more angered when it was announced last November that a local couple had given the UNI athletics department an unrestricted $2 million gift.

“That made me sick,” Taliaferro said. “We needed $1.2 million to keep the program going for three years. They found money to make all these improvements to the Dome, put new turf in. That was hard for me to stomach.”

“You see all the things they’ve done,” Bennett said. “They put new turf in the Dome, the head basketball coach (Ben Jacobson) just got a new contract. The money is there, obviously. Unfortunately, they were looking to drop a program, and we were it.”

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

It is a true 40 win season with 37 division 1 wins so far. The ncaa counts all games in teams overall records.

I don't think Gene would like to be told he only has about 1300 wins instead of 1700 because you don't want to count non-division 1 wins (or Ron Dedeux, Cliff Gufstafson, Auggie Garrido or any of those guys for that matter).

Using your math, just less than 1 in 4 (23.5%) wins in HCGS's career has been against Division II and NAIA schools. Honestly I am surprised at this statistic. Regardless of our conflicting perspectives on the win total we are both on the same page in hoping our Shocks excel and march on to Omaha!
