Possible starter for the All-Star game?

Did Looper ever make an All-Star game? I think the last Shox pitcher in an All-Star game was Tyler Green before he ran into some arm problems, but my memory of this stuff isn't great.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Looper didn't pitch in an All-Star game, but did pitch in 15 post-season games over two seasons. This included 7 games in two different World Series.

At this point, Mike wouldn't be starting, but has a good shot of getting selected. He's having a great season and so are a number of others, in particular Jimenez with the Rockies (10-1, 0.78 ERA). Mike currently 9th among NL starters in ERA.

Pelfrey is pitching tonight against the Padres. Padres up 1-0 after 2.

Strasburg is making his debut for the Nationals on MLB (cox 263). He has 4 stirkeouts through 2 innings. He is putting on a show.

Make that 6 strikeouts through 3 innings.

                    Some nice big apple ink:

The effort might not have been Strasburgian, but the game Mike Pelfrey threw last night at Citi Field was special enough for his manager, Jerry Manuel, to leave it in his right hand when the book m…

Blue collar effort today gives him his 9th win. Finally the Mets give him some run support early on.

                            excerpt from espn

News: Pelfrey struggled early Sunday, but made a change in his warm-up routine that paid immediate dividends, the NY Daily News reports.

Spin: Pelfrey, who allowed three runs in the first two innings, admitted that the low-90s temperatures and thick humidity seemed to keep his two-seam fastball and splitter up. Then came the adjustment: While warming up before the third, Pelfrey moved toward the rear of the mound and uncorked two pitches with his back foot planted on the downward slope of the hill. He had never done that during a game, though he had employed the technique during numerous bullpen sessions. That trick restored the sinking action that Pelfrey's pitches had been lacking, and he did not allow another run. Before experiencing sustained success this year, Pelfrey had lacked the confidence to change during a bad game, so this move is another sign of his growing maturity.

Mike Pelfrey appears pessimistic about his chances of being named to the National League All-Star squad when rosters are announced Sunday.

                                His reasons?

Ubaldo Jimenez, Josh Johnson, Adam Wainwright, Roy Halladay, Yovani Gallardo, Chris Carpenter …

“I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision,” said Pelfrey, who is 10-2 with a 2.93 ERA. “I know there’s a lot of very good pitchers out there -- starting pitchers, relief pitchers. I think it would be interesting. Either way, no matter what happens, I don’t think I could be upset. There’s a lot of guys. You can’t choose everyone, and there’s more than enough that you can take. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”

Pitching coach Dan Warthen said the intention is for Pelfrey’s last first-half start to be on July 11, the final day of the first half. Pelfrey would not be asked to pitch in the All-Star Game two days later.

Warthen was willing to have Pelfrey pitch a day earlier on standard rest and have Johan Santana take the first-half finale -- if it would help Pelfrey’s chances of making the All-Star team by making him available to pitch in the Midsummer Classic.

Warthen then learned of a rule change this year which would allow Pelfrey to pitch on the final day of the first half, be in uniform at the All-Star Game and inactive, and allow NL manager Charlie Manuel to select an active roster replacement.

“It would be awesome, a great experience,” Pelfrey said about attending. “It would be my first time, so it’s definitely something you would want to do and something you want to experience. If it happens, great. If it doesn’t, hey, I can look that I’ve had a great first half. I have to go out and have a great second half now.”
